Need help in Eau Claire, WI

No one manufactures a trailer hitch for the W204. Curt Manufacturing in Eau Claire, WI is willing to design one. They need someone to bring in a car for measurements. You will get a free hitch, and I will be able to buy one for my car. Is anyone willing to help? It's not practical for me to drive from Long Island to Wisconsin for this.

Just a silly question but why in the world would you want a trailer hitch on 204 I know the answer but still WHY?

Maybe it is his only vehicle (like mine is) and he has a PWC or small boat. He does live on an Island.

uh, Mercedes does..... however it will have a euro style ball on it but the hitch itself the part with the ball is removable so perhaps you can get one of those made with the size ball you need. or the cheaper way would be to convert the trailer itself to a euro size coupling. you see Mercedes pulling trailers here in Germany everyday, some even larger campers and horse trailers.
I'll look up a part# if i can find one.

Is there any reason that you cannot import a MB tow bar from Germany ? The tow bar most probably will have to comply with US standards. My tow bar was fitted by MB before sale. It was made by a local manufacture Trimotive in Melbourne Australia for MB.

The C Class is an ideal vehicle for towing. Engines have plenty of HP & torque, rear wheel drive for excellent traction, a very stable suspension & plenty of weight . Couldn't be much better!!
The more pratical of the human race like to tow a trailer to collect firewood, bring home material for home improvements & gardening not to mention caravaning with the family. Who gives a rats a%#se if its a prestige vehicle.

The option code for this is 550, so a dealer may be able to find the parts with that. The only disadvantage is that since it has not been ordered from the factory, there is no ESP setting to help with trailor/tow stabilization.

It is my only vehicle and I want to tow my Honda PWC. I also have a Thule bike rack that attaches via the hitch. The local MB dealer says there is no hitch available. Is there any difference between a US and German model that would affect the fit of a hitch?

When I went to the factory tour at Sindelfingen the guide pointed out the metal part that is underneath the bumper is a little thicker and slightly different shaped. That being said, I don't really think it matters as I have a friend of mine with a US Spec C350 with the german hitch installed for the bike rack. bear in mind that the german hitch is not the reciever style most american cars come with. The part with the ball is removable but the ball section is integrated into that piece meaning the ball it's self is one size only.

hope this helps,
Shawn

Well, it's 80 degrees out which has me thinking about my PWC once again. My search for a hitch has yielded nothing. I have looked at some German websites, but my junior high German isn't much help in understanding. Any ideas??

Since the GLK is built on the c class platform why would the trailer hitch from the GLK not work on any C Class?

Don't know if it works or not, I guess that if it did, someone would be able to confirm.

I went to Uhaul and they do not currently make a hitch for W204, but they can make one for $450 installed, without wiring. That is a lot more than a regular hitch, they are around $150, but it would be cheaper and more convenient than the roof rack for two bikes.

$ 450 sounds as cheap as chips. I was quoted A$1500 for a tow bar fitted to a new car in Australia. ( including wiring & computer hook up).

It would be a good idea to have half a dozen made up to sell to your mates.

Maybe the dealer there will let them come in or drop off a car for measurements.
