There IS a fix for bad bluetooth sound
If anyone is currently experiencing choppy sound or echo/distortion while using the bluetooth feature of the COMAND system, MB has a fix. They won't do it unless you SPECIFICALLY ask for it...but it is a complete telematic update which includes flashing the headunit.
I had it done last night and the phone sounds 100% better. Previously...friends and family would say, "I can't hear you", or "there is too much echo"...and I tried my best to adjust the bluetooth settings. It never seemed to work.
Well, last night they hooked my 2008 C300 up to the computer..which then connected to the computer network in Germany and updated the COMAND unit to the newest firmware and software version.
I notice little things in the menus, like a new memory card graphic, a "clock" graphic on the system screen, and a timer display when playing an MP3. (I don't remember it there before).
But MAINLY..the bluetooth sounds WAY better than before.
There is a MB DTB Star bulletin and the order number is P-B-82.70/61d dated August 11, 2008 which supersedes P-B-82.70/61c dated July 28, 2008
SUBJECT: Model 204.054/056/081
As of Model Year 2008 Equipped with COMAND Head Unit (Code 512, 527) Blue Tooth Hands-free Telephone conversation Choppy, Echo/Distortion detected especially by the land-line caller.
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the Blue-tooth telephone hands-free conversation audio quality being choppy, produces echo on both sides but especially detected by the landline, this may be due to a software error in the COMAND head unit and/or in the COMAND controller (A40/3). To remedy, please update the COMAND head unit software to version 46/07 using DAS 07/08 (or later) and SD Telematics Disc part number 204 827 53 59 (or newer) and update the software in the COMAND controller using DAS 07/08.
I am not sure what the above means myself...but that is what was done to my benz last night and I couldn't be happier. Of course this was a warranty issue and there was no charge. (I was having my A service done too).
I believe that you do have to be SPECIFIC when you describe the problem, because this is not a recall of any type...meaning....MB won't contact YOU to have it done....you have to request it.
Good Luck!

I wonder if this is car specific.... only related to cars with tele-aid. If it is they won't update mine
but I do agree that my BT audio quality is poor as described

I know it has nothing to do with tele-aid that's why I was wondering if it was vehicle specific because I don't have tele-aid. In case you didn't know Mercedes service bulletins are vehicle specific and even VIN specific. So let's say you have defferent options I.E MM, p1/p2, HK radio this serivce bulletin may not work for your car. That's why it's always good to list your options on your profile. Sorry for rambling on....
