Dirty Rear End

Have any dusty road travellers notice how dirty the rear of the C Class becomes in a very short time?.

The rear of the boot & rear mudguard is always covered in thick dust & using the boot entry button results in a less than a pristine hand.

Has anyone found a particular type of boot spoiler that keeps this area cleaner?

I also notice a large black soot deposit on the rear bumper around the exhaust tip if I have not washed the area for some time. (220 CDI)

Yeah, the design of this car results in some turbulence around the rear that accumulates road grit very quickly. I would never add anything, though, to "solve" this problem - I give it a squirt from my water bottle and clean off everything at every stop on a road trip.

It is more noticeable than on our W203 C240 - just a quirk of the aero characteristics of this car.

Yes I've noticed this as well. It is a bit frustrating, but ok. Bit strange and interesting though. Glad I"m not the only one.

yea same here, very dirty in only a few days, or right after the rain

I think coz the aerodynamics of the car guides the dirty dust/water down the trunk sides to the trunk rear...

its annoying as hell

But the improved gas mileage ... kind of makes it worth it!

Stay on the paved road. And what's wrong with pushing the trunk opener button on the LF door?

Surely you do not open the car door before depositing handfuls of shopping in the boot?

|use the key to open the boot then. And there is a handle inside the boot door which you can see clearly. use it to close the boot. Once you open the boot you will see an opening where you finger tips will fit in perfectly which you can push down the boot with and walah no finger marks on the boot. Its easier to close it that was as well.

Of course not, As I approach the car I open the trunk using the button on the key. Always. If I'm in the car I open it using the inside button before getting out.

I seldom use the external opener.

I've also noticed just how dirty that trunk area gets.

I know it has to do with the aerodynamics, but what is actually happening? Its almost like its attracting dirt.
