It's a "Belgian" version, 163ps is 15 fiscal hp: 1250€ tax to register the car in Belgium. 170ps would mean that tax goes up to almost 2500€!
163hp is 700€ yearly tax and the 170ps 920€. Not really worth it for those extra 7ps

Love the color! Congrats on the ride.

Seems wrong to pay tax based on power of engine...

A friend of mine had an MB imported from Belgium and the data card had a rare "accessory code" listed. One of the few one would prefer not having, a few ps reduced power on the engine.

Thanks for this clarification on the tax system, I knew it must be some sort of a tax issue but I did not know these details. Odd that EU countries have so many different ways to tax cars.

By the way, is ECU remapping popular in Belgium? Are cars tested to have the factory power figures?

Belgian road law is a joke. You can't install Xenon if you don't have washers on the car. LOL, who ever uses them anyway they get the hood all dirty

They don't test the power figures And that's why remapping is so popular; as long as they can't see it on the MOT it's fine. But fyi it's illegal. But tuning companies are legal... Extra compressors/turbos or even tinting the windows is not allowed...
But if you import a car from let's say Germany with all that work done, it gets a stamp and a document and suddenly it's legal.

You should read the Belgian laws, you will **** your pants

Here's one, make sure you are seated properly when reading !!!
In the French part of Belgium, you have to pay a monthly tax "viewing and listening money" if you have a radio

Not really. For a 220 CDI with 170 HP, the yearly tax is 366,43 Euros. For a 320 CDI, it goes up to 702,50 Euros.

Are you kidding, dont you think he know if he has a 200 or 220??

FYI a 200 has 136hp

This says the Belgium MB website for the 220

[163hp-170hp]/3.800 so you can chose.

And to the Belgium people, dont complain about that taxes! LOL we have the BPM here in the Netherlands so you pay 35000 for a C220cdi and we have to pay 42000 EUROOOO for the same car. And we pay WAY TAX every month

ToGilles:

Congrats with your car, looks nice a combo...

Oh well then MB ripped me off LOL The 200 CDI has 2 small endpipes and the 220 CDI 1 oval one.

OMG! Maybe I don't even have a C-class but only an A-class in disguise

That's not correct, you are quoting 11 fiscal hp (<100kW => C200 CDI 136hp) and 15 fiscal hp (<120kW => C220 CDI "tax version" 163hp). If you are put in 2 categories, you will always pay for the highest one.

Normally would've had a C250 CDI but the order was already made when MB announced it That engine power and fuel economy is a miracle. Drove one and you barely need to shift, so much torques

I agree and would have one in my garage if they brought us one for some reason MB thinks the USA would love their POS GLK series better than a W204 wagon

I have always been an Audi A4 kombi fan, but since the W204
MB are finally making models that are sportive and stylish. Finally an MB that's not for older people

Well according to this http://www.mon-assurance-auto.be/taxe-circulation-auto-belgique.html", only fiscal CVs are taken in account for the yearly circulation tax. Please fell free to correct me if I'm wrong though...

Agree completly. My only little complaint is that interior space is a bit limited when comparing it to my old Volvo V70. But you can't have everything...

Your photos also remind me to take some of mine since I never did because of laziness...

Your link is correct. But strange... It's registered as a companycar anyway
The Belgian law is too complicated

The kW values only come into play for BIV (registration tax), there the rule is indeed fiscal hp or kW, whatever is the highest. Annual road taxes are based purely on fiscal hp.

Great car by the way .

2009 and people still drive these things?? It reminds me of the old stationwagon my parents used to drive us around in, maybe Eurotek can design some wood paneling for it.

You are exactly correct, it's my opinion that your car is ridiculous and and all that matter is that you like it. Eye for any eye? 6 year old? don't think so, whats the problem? touchy touchy

No not touchy touchy, but when I read those replies I can't help but reply. Therefore my reply (to your reply) was well structured and argumented. It more then proves my case.

Anyone reading your reply will have the same feeling

And kombis are not to everyone's taste, I guess that's why MBUSA don't import them to your country.

I'll be watching your reply down here because I just know that you'll be wanting the last word in this minor argument of tastes Or not because I already predicted it?? Or maybe you will reply with another heavy denial??

It doesn't matter let's just agree to disagree Have a great weekend
