Yeah, there was a thread about this earlier in the year. Sounds like MBUSA made a change to the spec after the literature was produced. However, I'll bet that if you look through the literature, there is a disclaimer stating that final spec are subject to change.

There's not going to be any recourse on this one unfortunately.

I do remember this issue being brought up earlier in the year as well. There's always that disclaimer. I can't think of any reason it wouldn't be in this booklet.

This feature existed on the C class for years. My best guess is that the lawyers got the best of MB as usual, and removed yet another feature from the US market. Tunnel mode did not work in the last 08 C loaner I had.

If you park your car with the windows opened and it begins to rain they should automatically close, but as usual, disabled for the US (this feature unlike tunnel mode was always disabled, not just from 08 up).

FWIW - 09 US C63, no workie. I miss it - had it in my old C230k. Anyone care to figure out if it's in software and some over ambitious lawyer-type at MBUSA made the factory shut it down with a click? if so, how do we click it back on?

Tunnel mode. If you're going into a tunnel you don't want stale, C02-full air coming into the cabin, now would you?

Oh true...we don't have any tunnels that I know of in DFW so it would be useless to me...now when I lived in Boston it would have been useful.

Also it would be useful if the weather is iffy and you have the windows open and it starts to rain. One button closes all. Though it isn't to hard to close them all quickly

There's one in Addison off of Keller Springs. But, you must not drive over that way, so you wouldn't have a use for it.

Interesting, I am in the DFW area and I'm from Boston....

It's actually a good feature in the summer when the car is hot. I know on my E, if my car is parked in the sun, I hold the open button on my key fob near the IR sensor on the handle to do the "all open" (windows and sunroof). Once the AC kicks in, I use the tunnel mode as an "all close".

I'm very surprised that this does not work in the newer C class cars. It's not an important option, but it was a "nice to have".

Tell me, if you hold the "lock" button on the key fob near the door handle (from outside the car), will it close all the windows and sunroof? I wouldn't be surprised if this was disabled as well.

The fob open and close works just very short range.

Does anyone know why MB went to the trouble of using IR instead of the RF like the rest of the reomote functions? Seems like RF would have been a better choice and much easier to use.
My guess is they don't want someone jamming a key in there pocket/purse as the walk away on a rainy day and returning to there new C Class swiming pool??

any good RF hackers out there? Interface a box to the IR port so that we can trigger it via RF?
