Just wondering what you think about the a/c system.

I have a feeling something is not quite right in mine...heats up fine but i am not sure if it cools to the 16degCelcius properly.

With the freaking temp reaching 38deg C in Melbourne today, the a/c pretty much did Jack **** at minimum cooling temperature.

Yours the same?

Use "Auto" Feature and see if this helps. The temp should be set to minimun 16 on both sides.

If the cooling is not comfy then you might need to get it checked.

If it doesn't work, you could have a leak or no more gas inside the a/c.
Go in the car with a temp sensor But an a/c doesn't have infinite power, sometimes it's just too hot in the sun...

I have only had a few 90F days with mine but it seemed like the AC was pretty strong. You may want to have your system checked if it is not doing the job.

I usually run with the set point at 22' on hot days so you must have a fault. Let us know the outcome. Carsy Taree NSW

I am in Melbourne, and found the car was well cooled driving home in the heat yesterday. I have to set it on about 24 as it gets too cold.

No complaints from the AC in mine. Worked well all summer. Even with the sunroof open it kept it cool inside.

Actually, I can't wait to use it again! -15F (-26C) here today!

Anything over about 32C most A/C systems start to stuggle. If you're driving above 40kph it should be ok, but anything below that and there is too much heat buildup under the bonnet to be effective.

Dark coloured cars and dark glass keep alot of heat in the car also.

If you sit in traffic alot you can adjust (with star diagnosis) the engine fan so that it comes on sooner and reacts to rising temps faster. This helps A/C performance alot when sitting stationary.

All Australian delivered cars should have "basic ventilation" set to active (another star diagnosis setting). Basicly this means that as soon as the A/C is on regardless of ambient temperature the engine fan is set to 20% speed. If it's not then some a/c performance is lost in the 20-30C range.

The W201 had great A/C, W202 pretty good, W203 (early) very poor, W203 (late) average, W204 pretty good, very good with heat reflective glass (optional).

once again, totally disappointed and frustrated with MB Melbourne service. they shouldnt be selling cars if they cant freaking service a simple a/c issue.

so i brought the car to be checked..and next day i get a call saying its all fixed, there was apparently a leaking o-ring plus gas was low. I was like ok, that must be it then.

picked up the car on friday arvo with outside temp of about 28C. put the a/c on 16 to check the difference and freaking hell, its the bloody same thing.

the temperature coming out of the vents is ok but not cooling down inside the car!!!

looking forward to giving the service advisor my 2 cents tomoz....

take it back and keep hammering them. Get them to give you a loan car so they are hurt by the cost of repairs to the dealership....

I found the culprit in my car, but no selution so far. In my case I found the aircon output cold, but me stay feeling warm. It was the rearcompartment unit which does not remember it's coldest setting after car was switched off. It returns to a default value of 22c degrees, thus while the aircon is making cold this thing is heating. I thought it was the engine/gearbox heat from centre console between seats. If I remember I set it to 1c degree and then no problem.

Apparently not all models has this extra unit with temp guage and fan control/close fitted between front seats. The rear passengers can see the digital display.

Make sure about this unit.

The 3-zone airco is called Thermotronic I think, as opposed to the standard 2-Zone Thermatic. The former also includes a residual heat function and (I believe) an air quality sensor (for automatic recirculation).

Considering that it's a pretty expensive option (for what it does - after all it's still an a/c), I'm not sure many people will have it.

On the W211 the four zone AC brings also air nozzles to the rear windows (at the B-pillar). Is there no such difference on the C-class? Those nozzles are quite useful at cold winter days if the car is full of passengers, to keep the rear windows clear.

Thumbs down Problem from inside the car.

Our problem originates from the inside, not outside, and it is probably cars fitted with a rear heater/cooling console between front seats, which in default after switched on heating up the inside, while the aircon is cooling at the same time.

MB MEL now saying this is how it is with all C-class. They tested with 4 different cars and it is the same. good temp coming out of vents but the car inside temp about 7-8 deg hotter.

To be honest, I test drove the c63amg yesterday and with the a/c on full blast at 16C, it felt like the same as in my car...

so maybe thats how it actually is....even though I would not have expcted that...

On a 35'C day my 220CDI is very comfortable. Setpoint say 22 to 23'C.When entering the car when left in the sun the temp. is brought down to a comfortable level very quickly. But what I do notice is that unlike some car A/C's which freeze certain body parts , the C Class gives an overall /general cooling effect. I find this superior to having, say a frozen face & a hot body.
I like my A/C . JC.
