Cluster ISSUE with C350
I have had my C350 for a little over 6months and other than a cracked windshield, I have had not issues until now.
About 2 weeks ago a portion of my cluster display has begun to disappear and come back every few times I drive the car. Everything still works but it is very annoying. At the same time my mirrors folding in on lock are hit or miss as well.
I came here to see if anyone has heard of this issue and can help me out.
Kind Regards
Dan

I don't think they would have the LCD as a spare part but that would be the dealer's head ache. This one does seem odd though, it looks more like the computer did not print all the screen content for the second photo, or does it look different when you see it in real?
Usually when you have issues with an LCD it concerns full vertical or horizontal pixel lines. In this case it could be horizontal but it would concern at least two different positions which sounds a bit odd. I guess still possible.

The screen itself is fine. The dealership does not know where to start looking.
When acting up... All the trasmission information and the line disappear consistantly.

Does the transmission have a seperate control unit? Maybe it is not sending the info or there is a break in the line? Does it affect driveabiltiy?

The dealer should give you a loaner while they find out what the problem is, then they give you the car back while they order any parts they made need and give you a loaner again while they fix it.
That is an odd issue that I haven't heard of and could be caused by many things. Unless there is a bulletin on it (or if the dealer has seen the problem before) odds are they'll need to check a few things out just to determine the problem.

dealers don't repair LCDs. they just order a new cluster and install it. while they do that you can ask them to give you the 2009 cluster which has those hooded rings if you want. (personally not a fan of those hooded ones)

It really couldn't be too many different things. They can use SDS to do an LCD screen test to determine if it is displaying all of the data that is being sent to it (it looks like it is since there are no irregular bars, etc., in the image) and see if there are any fault codes. Looks like there is a fault in the CAN bus sending data to the I/C, or the I/C itself is bad. The I/C will store fault codes if there is an issue with CAN communication.

If the display starts to go bad, they basically have to replace the whole instrument cluster. That's what happened with my 00 S500 when things started to disappear.
Let them figure out what needs to be done and ask them to give you a loaner while they work on your car.

Unfortunately, I am going to have to dust this old thread off...I started experiencing the same problem (intermittently) with the instrument cluster display as the OP and was wondering what was the resolution for him? Did the dealer have to replace the entire cluster ?

When my transmission was acting up, the display started acting weird although didn't disappear completely. It looked like his first pic even when driving, no "C" or "S" for comfort/sport and no gear highlighted. They ultimately replaced my transmission valve body because it also has a control unit attached, but my trans was also acting up.

His mama. Traded y0 mama in because she was squeaking.
The TCU talks to the ECU which in turn talks to a bunch of other modules as well as the Instrument Cluster module. Basically, there is no direct link between the transmission control unit and the cluster. It's a... cluster, if you know what I mean.

...and of course, today the display works like new! I expected this, actually, so that's why I am posting here, since there isn't much a dealer can do if I cannot show them the problem.
But in general, do you think the issue could possibly be in the connectors that go into the display, rather than the actual display itself?
