2009 Sport vs. 2008 Sport

So I had my car in the dealership to get a new oxygen sensor which caused the engine check light to go on and also to lubricate the mirrors which squeeks when retracted.

I had a 2009 Sport as a loaner and I was surprised about some of the differences from my 2008.

Here are my observations:

- Beige/brown interior with wood trim from the Luxury model now offered on the Sport.
- Driver's power seat control with memory located on the door.
- 4-spoke steering wheel instead of the 3-spoke (which I'm not a big fan).
- Power adjustable steering wheel which raises up when engaged in park.
- The hooded gauges make the silver background looks almost black as it tilts downwards.
- Silver finish shifter has been replaced with a leather shifter.
- The fog light indicator light on the guages is always on at night and a bit annoying to see on most of the time. I can't seem to figure how to turn this off, whether I had the fog light on or off.

Yes, a new option for 2009 but....

The new 2009 option to order the Luxury beige/tan interior in the Sport model is available in both leather and MB-TEX materials. You lose/gain: 1) the 3-spoke Sport type steering wheel in favor of the Luxury's 4-spoke design, 2) the standard aluminum trim is replaced by burl walnut (no aluminum or black maple available), 3) ditto leather shift fob replaces aluminum finish, 4) the headliner is no longer black and is replaced with a color that blends with rest of the beige/tan interior, and 5) the brake, clutch and parking brake pedals loose the metal surrounds treatment in favor plain black pedals.

You end up with hybrid vehicle with the exterior look of the Sport, yet with the more "traditional" Luxury interior of tan and burl walnut. It is a no cost option, but fairly rare. This hybrid scheme is usually only found on the gold/sand, Barolo Red paint schemes.

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
I wouldn't mind having the 4 spoke wheel, and I really need to get the leather shift knob. The black headliner is must for me and I'll take aluminum trim over walnut.

The loaner I had earlier in the week was a Lux with the beige interior. I couldn't wait to get rid of it, hate beige.

I got a 09 loaner today (luxury). This is what I noticed right away, besides what it has been said so far.

It has a real-time fuel consumption graph on the tach above the remaining miles. Not that I need it, but I would be cool to have.
The mem seat (only for the driver) has an electric headrest.
The buttons on the steering wheels are different. The OK and MUTE buttons are standing out, it looks kinda cheap, I wonder why they did it.

I glad I dont have the hooded gauges on my car. I hate the chrome around the gauges.
I love my aluminum shifter, this one has leather (or something that looks like leather).
Oh, and of course, no the folding mirrors on the 09.

The 2009 Sport loaner I got was a Mars Red with the beige/brown interior with burled walnut trim. It has the aluminum pedals. The car had no options other than 4matic, so it didn't have the bi-xenon lights.

I much prefer the design of the 3-spoke steering wheel over the 4-spoke.

I'm also not a fan of the hooded guages because of the shiney chrome rings around the guages and the distorted turn and hazard signals (so that they seem to appear normal when viewed straight on) is a little wierd.

The exterior antenna is now painted.

The interior of the trunk looks downgraded from mine. I don't know since I have the P2 package, if that is actually true or not. I see a lot of exposed painted metal in the interior, which I don't really see on mine (maybe because I have the folding rear seats).

The power seat controls on the door and the power steering wheel adjustment are a welcome change.

I think the only way to get the folding mirrors is with the P1 or P2 package.

The trunk on the last 09 loaner I had looks just like my P1. I really like the memory seats/mirrors and wish they were on my car. Folding mirrors are no longer available at all. One way to make the noise go away.

The white needles on the gauges are nice! My 08 has orange.

How much did the leather shift knob cost? I would like to do the same.
