Yes..it would cost the same. He'll pay the same deductible regardless of the car.

And for us kids, insurance doesn't really change that much regardless of the car. I went from a 2006 Mini to the C300 and the difference was next to nothing. My brother has a 350Z and that cost about the same to insure as well. Insurance is high for young guys regardless of the car..unless you get a complete pos.

Also, I rear-ended someone about a year ago and my premium didn't go up at all since it was my first accident.

aw man, accidents suck, doesnt matter if you are 18 or 80.

I'm another "young" person with a C300...What if I got a $35k Toyota Highlander instead....I dont think people would have the same reaction. Just my two cents. A car is a car

Yeah..people act like a C300 is some exotic vehicle that should be cherished.

We might as well live in trailers too because we're young and stupid and will prob burn our houses down anyway..same logic right?

you're partially correct. there's many factors that are considered in an insurance estimate. one of the main factors being the whether you choose to have collision/comprehensive coverage and if so, at what level (i.e. $5k-$250k). now, the lower the level/amount that you choose the less variance it is in affecting the cost between cars.

so if i had collision coverage for $10k, and choosing between a new Honda Civic or a C300, the cost would be nominal between the two. because either way, the insurance company is likely to pay the whole coverage amount in a claim no matter which vehicle it is.

however, if i had collision coverage for $100k, choosing between a Civic and a C300 makes a far greater difference as the insurance company sees a risk assessment of paying/fixing $20k or $35k (since i'm covered upto $100k).

now if you were to solely have liability coverage only, then yes, cost difference among vehicles is minimal.

BTW Hutch, how are the spacers working out?

OP, just avoid the headaches and get the car back to original specs.
Love the spacers... and a GLI is much more than a value edition jetta

That's completely false. Rates do change with cars. My first car, the Audi B7 I had a 16, brand spankin' new, insurance greased me up and aimed for penetration. No accidents, no tickets, nada.

And from there, it only went up, and when I got my W211 E55 AMG at 18, it nearly doubled, and now with the SL600 at 20... well, I don't even call it insurance at this point, I just call it day light robbery.

I don't know how in the world your rates aren't changing... must vary state to state, what insurance company are you with?

Comparing insurance isn't easy. It depends on so many factors, you can't make generalized statements that have any real-world value. Age, driving history, zip code, all your insured cars, married/single, deductibles, coverage limits, addon riders, credit score... the list goes on and on.

correct.

but on this particular subject, we're only talking about cost difference among vehicles (as the single factor).

I have full coverage..I've never had a cheap car so I dont know exactly what the difference would be...but my point was, a kid with a benz at 18 is prob not concerned with the minimal cost difference between insuring a C300 and a cheaper car.

well you went from a relatively inexpensive 4cyl turbo sedan to an AMG, and now a high end V12 sports car, clearly thats gonna change things.

im talking about a C300 versus something a bit more common among teenagers...like a Civic/Mazda3/etc....i dont think the benz would be that much to insure. i dont know for sure since i dont pay for mine, but i doubt this kid does either, so the cost is irrelevant.

And if you can't explain it by just calling us names just concede you were trying to feel cool and I'm sure we'd back off. I mean come on this is just an internet forum but its a community here and we actually get along.

What matters is, a lot of you sounded like middle aged *****s.

I really don't know why I put my age, maybe I should have put my government name too so it could be a proper introduction. I apologize. I have no reason to show off my c300 to a bunch of other guys who have c300's, 350's and c63's--and even better cars. This is a Mercedes Forum. Would I go to the dealership and stunt my ride? Think about it.

No one should get angry, frustrated or offended over this. I didnt mean it.. I put the pics so that I wouldn't have to type out all of the damages. This whole thread really surprises me.

This is a very entertaining forum . Keep it up.

To my mind it is wiser to have an older less expensive car in our youth . It takes the pressure off having dingles like this . Also in an older car the younger person can repair the body damage themselves, learn how to straighten up panels , bog them up & spray paint. Also can be a good introduction to servicing & mechanical repairs making for a life time of informed motoring.

Keep up the pecker 718 , we are only giving helpful advice & welcome to the forum.Old John.

People on these forums are too funny. The kid might of said he was 18 cuz he needed advice from you older folks how to fix this thing up. He comes to the older people for advice and in return he gets **** on. C'mon. C300 for a kid is not even that serious. Its like getting a kid 325i. Im 23 I have 3 cars and use my C350 as a beater...who cares. Doesn't matter how old you are, you drive what is in your driveway.
