FYI: American-spec Navi in Europe

Just a quick FYI: The navigation on North-American C-classes don't work in Europe. The dealer states that there is a different software supplier for North America than in Europe. Since it's a hard-drive system, the head unit (hope I used the right term) has to be swapped and will cost in excess of $2k.

I hear that this is inherent only to C-classes and that E- and S- classes can be upgraded with a new DVD. I'd assume that the new SUV based off of the C-class would also have this problem since it shares a lot of bits and parts.

Suggestion: If moving between the States and Europe, look into the Tom Tom's with both US and European maps. They're great and even have the speed zones pre-programmed for Europe and will yell at you if you're speeding too much.... That's great because the German gov't has privatized speeding tickets and the cameras here are all over the place!
