If you say you had the locks, they gonna ask for the "KEY", and you dont have a key for the bolt locks.... so watch out what you are telling them.

Dont think you MUST have it for the insurance, but put them on next time.

Good luck with it man, damn "klootzakken" (dutch)

Stock rims.
it's gonna cost min 2.000 euro the dealer said.

Luckily it seems i don't need the locks in order to have the insurance cover it.

dealer also said that, even IF i could show the key for the locks (or an invoice, ),
the insurance can still tell that i did not have the locks on the rims.

without a key it takes the dealer about 2 hours to get locked rims off a car.
and this is in the workshop, not in the street...

agw, i should have my ride back on thursday.

Ok, heres the plan....

Find those worthless meatsacks and beat the hell out of them until they die, because your car is obviously worth much more than their pathetic lives.

No sarcasm.

This makes me glad I live in the 2nd safest town in Canada. This stuff doesn't happen.

That's just brutal. My condolences. I think I'll pick up a set of wheel locks this week...

I hope in the end you're made whole from all this hassle you're going through and any damage to the car.

Best of luck to you!

I'm so sorry man, that really sucks big time. Hope your insurance would follow through and get you some new wheels. Is the body of your car damage from the bricks?

the lock wheels must be standard right? i cant imagine it not being standard........

also is the lock key the same or unique for each car/set of wheels??
in which case it would seem easy to steal

sorry to hear........*******s everywhere, at least the insurance is taking care of it

Key varies by the set of studs/lugs. The manufacturer has a database that matches a number with a key pattern though I don't think that there is an infinate number of patterns but most likely a few dozen can't see more than 100.

It may have been "arabs", it may not... that's not the point.

whoever did this were thieves, but that does not mean
we have to start judging a whole race.

I doubt it's your local white boy that jacked the wheels, "les rebeux" are more likely to have done it but then who knows. I just speak from experience

i understand what you are saying, but we should judge the people
that actually stole my tires and NOT everybody with that same nationality.

They are not standard on the 2009 A4. I had to pull the wheels off to install mudflaps on my girlfriends A4 and hers doesn't have locks.

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
That is crazy! I hope everythin works out for you.

A few observations:

If your wheels do not come with locks, the insurance company should not expect you to purchase them addtionally and not cover you if you do not. It's odd that MBs do not come with them. All of my VWs and Audis came with locking lug bolts.

The theives had MB jacks??? They definitely knew that they wanted your wheels.

"dealer also said that, even IF i could show the key for the locks (or an invoice, ),
the insurance can still tell that i did not have the locks on the rims.

without a key it takes the dealer about 2 hours to get locked rims off a car.
and this is in the workshop, not in the street..
."

I think the dealer is wrong. Most car/car part theives know exactly what they are doing and can quickly defeat many security systems. How on Earth would a dealer be able to tell that you had locking lug bolts or wheel locks? And the later would require looking at the wheel, which you do not have.

You are lucky. Just look at it as a lesson. Sucks man. Were they stock wheels? Definitely get some locks next time. Look at it as an opportunity to buy new wheels

Don't feel too bad about not having locking nuts - I think they offer a false sense of security anyway. They may discourage the casual thief, but if a pro wants to steal your wheels, locking nuts won't stop them, only slow them down. As was said above, there are only so many combinations of key patterns out there.

An example - my TL came with McGuard locking nuts. Last year I took the car in to a tire place to have a new set of tires installed, and soon discovered that at my last dealer service about a month earlier, somehow they "forgot" to put the locking nut key back in my car. I drove over to the dealer and within 5 minutes, through trial and error with the box full of used locking nut keys they had, we found one that matched.

Pros are gonna have a box full of these keys, and if they have the time (which it sound like they probably did overnight in your garage) they'll find one that matches and have the wheels off no problem.

many many years ago I had my car stolen from my school's parking lot. the police eventually found it with most of the parts stripped. I had aftermarket wheels w/ wheel locks and they weren't able to steal the wheels.

On each tire I had 1 wheel lock and the thieves had tried desperately to remove it. The opening was beaten and scratched to death. Like a cat pawing at an opening too small for its paw. What a great feeling to know they failed at stealing the most valuable part of the car, ha.

Anyway, get wheel locks.

Also, if the door to the garage was broken for 4 months your HOA or property management co. definitely has some liability. Although you're in France and I doubt the law is the same.

Hope everything works out.

And all is well again;

900 eur for the tires + 1025 for the rims (excl tax)
total damage: 2607 euro (incl tax)

Garage door was "magically" repaired last wednesday... but it was broken again on Saturday...

The haven't heard the last of me...
