No they are two different kits, there is the "Ipod Interface kit" and the UMI Universal Media Interface, the latter includes navigation with the smaller 5" display, but both kits comes with a complete set of adapter cables with the possibility to attach, Ipod, Iphone USB and more.
The Ipod interface kit cost around $300 plus install here in Sweden.

Hey,

Some of you guys seem to be way off with your information (I'm assuming it might be the fact you guys are in the States).

Vic Viper has it completely right, I have a 350 with the Command System and the Ipod Interface (officially called "Media Interface") only cost another $375 Canadian.

IMO, it's well worth it. With the media interface, MB adds a wire neatly tucked away in the glovebox. You stick your ipod in there and you're good to go.

The Media Controller and Command Screen give you control of your Entire Ipod in the same way you would have if you were holding the ipod in your hand. Meaning, you can scroll through all of your playlists, sort by artist/album etc. Plus with the LOGIC Soundsystem, the sound is amazing!

I don't understand how I can pay 300 bucks and not have the option of having the iPod information displayed on the command screen. Why even differentiate? If I would have had the option of the UMI along with my DVD/NAV MM package, I would have taken it. This whole issue just pisses me off.

The issue is the developmental progress of the integration. The old iPod integration kit, like you have, is only known to the COMAND as an AUX input - nothing more. It is nothing more than connecting the 1/8" connector from the iPod into a 1/8" AUX connector in the car and listening that way. It's just that MB took it one step further and took advantage of the CAN network in their car to provide some kind of control for the iPod. Yes, it's less than perfect, but you are using technology that was developed in 2004-2005 and released in 2006. I don't know of ANY car in 2006 that offered the level of control the MB system did - the "others" only allowed Playlists, etc.

Well, since this is now outdated, the newer interface connects through USB and actually reads the file digitally and straight into the COMAND, skipping the who AUX input, etc. This not only performs much much better, it provide additional data to the COMAND to display, and also provides better sound quality.

I just built two W204s on MB's web site. For some reason, the are allowing you to integrate the MMI on www.mercedes-benz.ca but are not on www.mbusa.com.

Hi all,

Just talk to the guys at Comand.co.uk. They did my 2009 W204 model (with Comand) and its brilliant! Full control through the Comand wheel and with my HK Logic system it sounds great. Cost around £600 GBP in spring last year.

Wow, My 2010 C300 has this feature from the factory with the MM option. I am glad it is not the aux input the way my Audi was.

really? can you take pictures of how it looks? I wonder if there is a possible retrofit so that older MM package equipped cars can do this too.

Are there any similar options for vehicles without the Comand System installed. I was looking at the Comand.co.uk site and they did not recommed installing the UMI on the non-comand W204s.

The UMI is for the standard audio system.

I believe you can do play random, press either the phone button on the steering, I forgot it if the hangup or the calling one, but press one of the during playing your ipod and some option should come up. I found this out a couple of weeks ago fooling around with the car.

That is how the screen looks om my 2010 C300. Yes you can look for songs, artist, album etc. with the current song still playing. Yes the screen shows artist and songs. All part of current system. Maybe the MB software upgrade will change this for 08 & 09 MY.

A software update may enable it, but the dealer will not install the 2010 software on my 2008 car. He said it is different & he can not do it. Anyone else do it?

I just got the 2010 update, but it does not work for the IPOD
On the command screen
Actually when you use AUX and try to push Disc it will not switch over
It stays on the last source.
You have to enter from AUDIO then choose Disc or via voice

I think it sucks that I cannot use my iPhone with the iPod integration kit. Now that I have an iPhone, I don't need the iPod. Ugh!
