To get mine updated properly that was the case. They were able to upgrade the firmware on my equipment, however the Dealer will not install any features that are not on the car originally - Like NAV feature on the IC. That will need to be accomplished by someone who knows how to do it offline - Good Luck.

VIC,

I ordered all the parts you listed in your first post in the thread, and I am wondering if you could confirm parts "# A1234750120 Pad for GPS antenna x3" - when I ordered this item, I received an item with the # A1234750120 (same as you listed), but with the description "Pad, Fuel tank, Rubber" - is this correct?

yes, the part number is worng. Actually you dont need the pad for GPS, If you want to retrofit the comand with OEM GPS antenna you must buy the GPS antenna wire (coaxial wire) or another with the same characteristics and you must buy the OEM GPS antenna.

I did that retrofit with all OEM parts and the results are gorgeousthe GPS antenna mounted in our MB are very good recieving signal.

I used the fuel tank rubber to avoid the equipment vibrations, wire vibrations, etc.

And another thing. I bought the axial blower and it cames with the two screws to place it. I think the 2 screws part number are not necesary to buy, but they ony cost 80 cts of euro

bye

The part number is correct, the GPS antenna is supposed to be installed at the instrument cluster space (interior) where the pads are needed.

Of course it is possible to use the roof antenna approach where different parts are needed.

Yes the screws arnt needed but could come handy if one is lost, as mentioned they dont cost much.

The pad number is correct but you only need one as the foam strip is about 300mm.s long and you need to cut three antenna sized pieces.

I'm happy to say that I finally got the COMAND installed in my car, the Navi works perfectly in the IC, and all is good but one detail - I can't get the TMC function to work. The head unit displays a message "Can not tune in TMC in reception area" (or something similar). I updated the maps with a 2009/2010 DVD map from MB which includes the TMC frequency for Norway.

Is there a seperate antenna for the TMC function, or should it work with the parts listed in the first post of this thread?

No, TMC is using the regular FM antenna and should work, there may be a TMC setting in the engineering menu you have missed?

Hi Vic! Thanks for your reply, great to hear from you - you're the one that made this retrofit possible for me, Thanks!

Regarding the TMC, I've been looking around in the COMAND APS menu, and I can't find anything relating to TMC other than "Read TMC messages out loud". As far as I can see, there are no TMC options in the IC either. And the map update for 2009/2010 says it has the updated TMC frequencies for a multitude of European countries, including Norway so that can't be the problem. So the thing I am suspecting is that the TMC was not programmed properly by the dealer when they changed the programming to accomodate the Comand system?

Are there any other options where I can change TMC settings? Can the TMC settings be changed in depth at the dealer by Star or Xentry?

Where are you located?, over here there is only one station (SR) transmitting TMC and if there is poor reception TMC wont work.
I dont think the techs screwed up TMC as there is no reason for them to make any changes to the HU what so ever.
Are you using a used or new HU?

Maybe you could try and update the HU with the latest firmware.

I'm located in Oslo, Norway. There are two stations who broadcast TMC in Norway; these are NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation) and Destia Traffic. I should have excellent reception in the area I live, at least my TomTom has no problem receiving TMC signals while installed in the car. I also asked a taxi driver the other day to check the TMC in his new E-class, and it worked perfectly. I installed a used HU, but the dealer who installed it said that they had updated the firmware in the HU. I'm not sure this is true though, as information from the previous user was still stored in the HU memory - I might expect that all information is lost when updating the firmware?

Is there any way to check the firmware version without going to a dealer? How much does a dealer apprx. charge to update the firmware? The Map disc from MB says it had updated TMC frequencies for Norway, but after map update it still does not work.

User settings remains intact after FW update, its hard to see FW version even in engineering mode, but if you look at the full screen map view and you can se a cloudy sky at day mode and a starry night in night mode you have the latest FW.
I have posted pictures of this somewhere.
Do not know if there is any way of changing TMC settings through the diagnostic tool but I will check this the next time I have my car plugged in.

Ok, thanks Vic. I'll check the next time I'm in the car (normally have the birds eye view of the map), so I'll change it to 3D mode to check.

I'm having the car in for service in about a month and will have the speaker in the right back door fixed on guarantee - there is no sound in that speaker - I might as well let the tech guys check this problem aswell.

Hi Vic,

I'm in Hong Kong and would like to retrofit Comand to my W204 C280 to replace its Audio 20.

It would be highly appreciated that if you can list out the retrofit parts required for the RHD W204 as well.

In addition, anyone knows where I can find the map for the place I live (Hong Kong) as dealer here refuse to see the map DVD.

Cheers

Hi, Hong Kong user here.

Try www.navi.hk, they can retrofit command at a reasonable price... (25k quoted, can be negotiated down... )

send me some pics if you retrofitted it, benzbrake@gmail.com. thanks.

Hi!

There is some reference made to the "Engineering menu", could someone please describe how to access the Engineering menu in the W204 Comand system? Thanks!

Edit: I'll answer my own question; hold (hangup), 1 , # at the same time for 10 seconds

But where in the the engineering menu are the TMC settings?

Hi Ricky,

How much did you pay for this? I don't think it's easy to find a DVD for Hong Kong maps...

Good job, did you retrofit the Axial blower or not?

If not, please try to get it installed in the future, just to be safe as these units get hot.

How much did it cost you (not including the maps). And did you buy the parts online or at dealer? Also, did you install it or have them install it?
