$900 for the 18" at TireRack (they are the cheapest source from my research)... shipping / taxes / install is the real killer. Had I bought them in Canada, they would have been even more expensive .. believe me I called around.

Another round of ICE
Just wondering......Why wouldn't you have them sent to an authorized U.S. Tire Rack installer closest to the border and make a day trip out of it? When the price of gas or the dollar exchange is favorable, lots of Canadians cross the border near us to go shopping!

I know, I could have driven to seattle, been there tons of times visiting Microsoft for work.. but if my tire blew on the way and my rims got bent or even worse... i just didn't want to take anymore risks... (This last winter, I lost 10 days of productivity because of these ContiSport tires). That's $$$

The car is parked in my garage, I'm using my girlfriends car until this is all resolved. Thanks Mercedes.. !!!

A few extra hundred bucks, no big deal... by not working yesterday I lost a lot more 'Opportunity Cost'

Got my new tires.. they go on tomorrow ... Mercedes won't install them because they are not "recommended" . Going to SR-AUTO in Richmond.

Holy crap, I have never seen that tire, we sell Michelin as our primary brand and I have never heard of that tire, must be a special US-spec.

By the looks of the treads it seems to be a "all season" tire?

judging by what looks in the pic like black residue on the rim where the bulge is - a pothole / curb etc was the cause - maybe the lowering guys hit something in the post install test drive

Hey bud, sorry to hear of the tire issue. I see you have the new tread. The tires have warrenty for wear for a limited time (2 yrs or 40K) but a bulg would not be covered because it would be due to a pothole or somthing. I just had my alinment done due to a pothole, but no bulg in the tires.

You can find the info for warranty in your " service and warranty information booklet" on pages 6 and 8.

Give me a call somtime for a drink!

Not recommended = not purchased at the dealer so they are missing some huge fat margins.

I have heard of people suing the City successfully in Small Claims Court due to pothole damage. At least recover the cost of the tyres, repair/installation, and lost wages. Don't count on any punitive damages though...

Why not get summer tires on stock rims now, and get a set of winter tires on cheap set of 17 inch rims since you live in cananda. No all-seasons can touch winter tires in snow.

I thought summer/winter combo did wonders in terms of handling on my prior FWD car.

I've got continentals on my C with the same bulge in the right front. Never hit anything with it. Just coincidence I suppose.

Strange, I have A/S Plus on my CLS and y dealer has not said anything of the sort. Matter of fact, they loved the tires and kept looking at them. Sounds like that dealership just wanted markup on ya.

A/S Plus (FTW) are great tires, 500 treadwear, all season high performance, and 45K warranty. I got some at discount tire and got the replacement warranty. Anything happens, they replace the tire. No prorating, no approval, replaced.

just a follow up ... after a couple of months of use ... the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus are amazing ! I have driven about 4,000 km on them so far.

I've gone through 100km of off road bumpy sharp rocked gravel road (to get to a remote camp site), I've gone through torrential rains through the mountain highways... these tires rock .... they grip the road ..rain or shine. As for noise, they are about 10-15% more noisy on the highway.. but you can't really tell after 1-2 weeks.

It was well worth the $,$$$ upgrading to these tires... they are a total work horse. Also they look spectacular on the car...
