Mega bad luck today, windshield chip:(

What a day of bad luck! My brother had to come into my city to get his benz fixed, because the dealer in his city tried to rip him off. After he brings it here, indeed alot of things the other dealer claimed to be wrong it was all fine. After we went to pick it up, 50kms out check engine goes on, go back and find out the o2 sensor is broken. so he has to lv it there for awhile. However we take the car because he needs to take it to go change to his summer wheels. After its done, a clicking sound is apparent and it appears a rim was missing the spacer and it was hitting the brake plate. left it there because it was closing for the night, and jumped in my car, second my brother brought in his bad luck with cars my car gets a mega stone chip attack. Should I replace the windshield or just fill? I heard fill leaves marks... and Replace will make the seals not as good as the original work.

Hey, unfortunately the same thing happened to me a couple months ago. I had the whole windshield replaced with an OEM one and it looks exactly like it was before the chip. Even had the sticker still on the lower right hand corner

Same here. But honestly, the fit and finish looks perfect and looks no different then original windshield. It's just a matter of whether you want to spend that much $$.

My wife's C350 windshield just had a rock chip on the freeway -- a little dent about 2mm wide, and three little cracks extends another 3-4mm long.

A call to the local window company (call your local insurance agent for referral, usually they know the good window companies in town), and its installer guy came by the next day to repair our windshield. About 20 minutes of work, and magically the damage was almost invisible. I really appreciate the technology and skill of modern windshield repair.

The cost was about $120. It was less than our insurance deductible, so we paid out of our pocket.

Sorry to hear about your windshield, and best luck repairing it.

Regards,

Thanks, definitely consider that route. My friend got her window replaced and noticed it was slightly warped. She did get it replaced again though.

Windshield repair today is excellent. I would repair before replace. They always damage something when they replace unless you watch the job being done.

If the damage is not directly in front of you (in your predominate line of sight) I would say repair vs. replace.

I had a little windshield star repaired last fall and the cost was 40 bucks. And, the dealer uses this outfit for their glass work.

I'll be replacing mine

I had a nice size chip in the upper driver's side of my windshield. All it took was one 85 degree day and the crack had spread all the way across the windshield. I'll have to replace mine for sure.

Insurance said $100 deductible. If you have AAA they garuntee the work and have some kind of warruntee on the windshield I believe.

I had an oopsie and broke my windshield when the wiper blade came off of the wiper arm in my hand and the arm spring-shotted into the windshield... Required replacement and it was $1,000 installed. Best to repair those chips before they spiderweb out!
