I have the Magnaflo xpipe installed on my c350. Deleted the resonator for the xpipe with no problems. No crazy special piping needed or anything and I went to a local muffler shop.

Quote: Hi all,

I'm a newbie when it comes to the X-pipe. Does this part replace a component in the exhaust system like a resonator or can you simply just add on this part to your current exhaust setup without the need to remove anything?

Also, I noticed that most ppl doing this mod happen to be driving a C300 or C350. Are these diesel or petrol engined in the U.S?

I'm from Australia, and mine is a C320 diesel (3.0ltr V6)

Is there any difference in sound quality between the 2 enignes?
bump. Can anyone help answer the above?

I know this is an old thread but I'm debating whether or not to install an xpipe cause I went and asked the dealership about whether an xpipe would affect the warranty at all and basically what they told is that the warranty would be intact but if something were to brake like the engine an they could trace the cause back to the xpipe that it wouldn't be covered

So is there any risk of stuff like that happening and things breaking as a result of the pipe?

Put it closer to the back and you should avoid damage is what I've heard. Either way, I seriously doubt that an X-pipe would break the engine, but if somehow you broke your engine, you should sure as hell bet that the dealer would use your x-pipe as a scapegoat.

I had mine installed closer to the cats because I was told it would sound better. I've also been told many times that as long as you aren't cutting into the cats, you should be fine. Warranty should not be voided with anything behind the catalytic converters.

Also, I might try to take a video and see if mine sounds like everyone else's on camera, because when I'm driving it doesn't quite sound as nice as other videos...much more rasp, less growl. Maybe you guys could lend me your opinions. =)

Your question is already answered for which brand... Magma flo. Unfortunately, just changing out your resonator will not give you the c63 sound. You will only notice deeper tone in exhaust from 3-4k RPM range.

Anythings possible if you have the money, but with a v6 you can only get but so much for sound. Fork out 2-3k on a GT f1 exhaust and you'll be mighty close.

Know this is old, but hear this out. With a 2014 C300 Sport, what is the best way to go with a MagnaFlow X Pipe? Delete the resonator or cut into the cats? Im not going for too obnoxious of a sound, just a nice purr on cold start and in midrange RPMs. Any opinions on this?

Take a look under your car. There are 3 resonators total, two inline resonators, and a large resonator where both exhaust pipes converge and exit. People replace the larger resonator with an x pipe for starters. If they want it louder, they delete the inline resonators and replace with pipes. The inline resonators are sometimes called "secondary cats", but they are not catalytic converters at all. The actual cats are close to the engine manifold and are pretty much untouchable.

Beyond this, you can replace your mufflers to something with higher flow, or remove them entirely.

Has anyone done a side by side comparison of those that chose to place the X pipe closer to the engine than further away?

The only thing I could imagine changing is the ability of the X pipe to cancel or cross exhaust pulses.

I had my muffler guy place them closer to the cats, as I had heard that is the best place to put it. I really like the sound, a little raspy for my taste, but that's probably the automatic transmission.

If anyone is in the bay area we can compare exhaust tone and put it up on YouTube. But if someone else has the xpipe installed farther away from the engine, I would be willing to make a video of my xpipe for comparison.

That would be awesome to hear a side by side for sure. Also curious how much difference there is with the 3.5 vs 3.0L.

I know that the C350 has more growl, and less rasp, but alas I only have a C300. Regarding the comparison video, we should Rev to certain rpms in a certain order. If anyone is interested, let me know. I know that there are a lot of videos out there but having a video like this when I was deciding would have helped a lot.

That's my engine block heater cord. I usually remove it in the summer and tuck it behind the grille.

I have the x-pipe on my c350 and it made a difference in sound. At idle and just off idle it doesn't sound much different, but if I get into it and run the RPMs up it'll give a great deep V6 growl with no "raspiness." Haven't removed inline resonators or changed mufflers yet but I have considered it. Sounds great as it is though since I'm not interested in sounding like a juiced up Accord.

I know there are some who ask about getting a "C63-ish" sound but they're kidding themselves no matter how much they spend on an exhaust. If you want that sound get a C63 or engine swap for two extra cylinders. Otherwise it's not happening.
