How to Replace S/C Switch in Center Console

If, for some strange reason, I needed to replace the comfort/sport switch in my center console, how would I go about doing that? Does the shift indicator plate in which it resides simply pop up and out or is it more complicated than that? Anyone gotten into this area of their vehicles and care to share the knowledge? 2008 C350.

There is a thread earlier about how to remove the shift knob
You might want to search for that thread as I think it will make things a lot easier if you really need to replace the c<->s button..

Found a shift knob thread but not much info for me. Hopefully someone here has been where I need to go.

just take the shifting area apart. it is all one piece. u can unhook the button and put a new one in when u get the big piece off. it is all one piece so dont be afraid to break it. just pull it up.

So, are you saying that the plate that contains the gear position info and the c/s switch just pops up and out with a little force? No need to remove the entire wood-grain looking piece that the shifter plate pops into?

Dealer says part alone is $154 because it comes as a complete unit, shift indicator attached. He also says part # is VIN specific because there are 7 different versions of it. Sounds like the woodgrain panel at the base of the shifter is also part of the package.

Mystery solved. First you pop the shifter boot from the plate and then you can easily reach in and dislodge the feaux metallic plate from the woodgrain trim that surrounds it. The shift indicator light and c/s switch are integral to the metallic plate and cannot be removed from it. That's why it's $154.

Thanks to all who chimed in.
