Xenon Lights

I've been looking for this answer for awhile. Basically, I had xenon lights on my last car (Cayenne S) and I love them. My c doesn't have xenons, and I miss the color and the brightness. It looks like daytime with xenons.

Regardless, I want to put xenons in my car, but I don't want to pay ridiculous money. I also heard there is real xenon lights and white lights that look like xenons but really aren't.

What's the difference? How much would it cost for real xenons? Where can I get them?

Any help is appreciated.

Try SilverStar ULTRA from Sylvania. That's what I have on my 190E.. they are as bright if not brighter than my C350 xenon lights...

There are several threads detailing info on HIDS, factory aftermarket etc, and Xenon look alike bulbs. You might even want to search the W203 forum as well; lighting, per se, hasn't changed.

I just read some thing where it said HIDs are bad for your car because you're converting them from halogen sockets.

Sigh.....

<<<CEB gets on his "HID kit" soapbox>>>

The design of xenon bulbs differs significantly from halogen bulbs and requires a completely different reflector design.

Many people incorrectly believe that halogen "projector" housing will work with xenons but there is a difference between projector and projector.

In very simplistic terms, halogen bulbs illuminate from side to side just like the lightbulb in your reading lamp. The brightness is about the same across the wire. The reflectors (or projectors) are optimized for that.

HID bulbs arc from side to side or In either case the light is brighter at the ends of the arcfront to back. Accordingly, the reflector housing requires a completely different design.

A couple of things to look at:

If im not mistaken, some people have mentioned in the forum before that if you have projectors all you need to do is tell the dealer to make them "xenon present" or something like that. Then just replace the bulb and thats it. You might want to dig more into this because i've seen this in a couple threads before both here and on benzworld.org

Get the genuine BiX lights from BenzNL - Anything else is a compromise. The genuine lights are superb & I think run at about $1100 installed if Steve is coming to your area.

The only problem is you won't have the washers & auto leveling & turning. I've never used my heated washers but in certain climes they are probably usefull.

Believe it or not, I haven't seen a W204 up close and paid any attention. Do the non-HID headlamps have a halogen projector? In other words, if you look at a HID and non-HID headlamp housing (the items you see behind the clear lens) in the daytime with the car off, do they look the same?

I just installed a set of APEXcone 8ks last night - couldn't be happier. Alot of people say not to go any higher than say 4or6k...I love the 8ks. In my projector the omit a perfect bluish/purple (not cheezy at all). I got the set for $75 from RPM in Costa Mesa - no "defective lamp" warning or anything. I'd never go back to stock H7s again...will post pics sometime this weekend.
