front door h/k speaker retrofit (how to)
The speaker wires are the least of your concern, take a closer look at the pictures, the speaker is attached in three mounting holes and the speaker hole isnt completely round, also the offset is made to make the speaker fit snug against the door panel grille.
Sure it is possible to fit aftermarkets but IMO it just isnt worth the effort when h/k is bolt on at a similar price.

This means that almost everything in the rear door needs to be removed, door panel, window crank, maybe the window, outside door handle, lock mechanism, the works

Correct, question is if your dealer knows how complicated the rear swap is?, there is no way to tell in the Benz systems, I found this out when I got the new speakers..
But then again, if you got a price they must stick to it right?
Will never come off and save a huge headache. They already use lots of glue on cars and aircraft so it's no big deal.

Have done a little research and the window must be loosened from the crank, window needs to be secured in window frame, door lock must be removed, outside door handle needs to come off, cable harness needs to be unhooked from B pillar, and a sh_tload of rivets must be drilled out.
Taping a speaker?, nah, I think ill stick to the rivets.
Due to the price of the speakers here in the US, I just went around and checked what aftermarket speakers I can use.
I spoke to one audio shop and they listened to my GLK stock radio. They said that should be enough to drive after-market speakers. The speakers he recommended is the HERTZ HSK 165 ($345) plus install about average between $450-480. That seems to be an affordable option.
Can you give me your thoughts on this ?
Thanks,
I am still leaning toward HK speakers but would defintly hold back until vic had time to do his..

and considering aftermarket speakers like I said before I would prefer OE h/k over aftermarket any day of the week, h/k are a perfect fit, monted correctly they wont cause any rattles or similar, with aftermarket speakers adapters and whatnot needs to be built..
Replaced mine two days ago :p Fairly easy job, took about 10 minsWould you recommend replacing those front door speakers too?
