White W204 > Bumper Discoloration
Anyone with white W204 experienced a yellowish discoloration on their bumpers? I mean, the color of the bumper (plastic) and the body (metal) is a little different after a while.
I noticed this on my friend's white W204. It is less then 1 year old.

Its common for plastic parts painted on a different line to appear different from rest of body.
White is the toughest color to match and to see a mismatch so it's either really yellow or you've a very keen color eye.
Sometimes it depends on the light and often has to do with the texture of the finish.
If it's noticably yellow the clear is defective and definitely a warranty issue. If you have the anti chip laminate film that's the cause.

no.
however it is garaged (relegated my always garaged w203 to the driveway......what a sacrifice...lol ) . I do find the quality of the paint on the side skirt sub-par from the SA plant on my 204 tho. It's the first time I see orange peal on any MB's paint from Germany or from USA (i.e. the ML/GL)

Most noticeable colour diff between plastic & steel painted parts is usually on Audi.
The new paint does orange peel Frank - I hate it. Saw a new white S class yesterday - German build - orange peel everywhere. They are certainly having trouble. Saw a few in Saudi recently - also bad.
Look at this nice Sindelfingen pick up orange peel.

White has the worst orange peel - it's embarrassing to see $10K KIAs with a superior finish. Mine is terrible - I will get around to having the whoule car wet sanged and cut polished.

Look at the reflection in the paint. Instead of being like a mirror it looks like an orange skin.

Don't know what causes it but when you look at the paint and see a slight texture on it (akin to the skin of an orange), that's the orange peel effect. Off the top of my head I would guess oxidation causes it but I'm no expert.

Yes - crazy isn't it. Korean & Chinese built cars using old technology - environmentally unfriendly paint have superior finish to the Germans using Glasurit water based paints that don't polute

Nothing to do with oxidation. It dries too quickly from the gun before it can slump properly into an even flat finish.

I think Benz owners have the right to expect paint finish as good as a Lexus - much less Korean stuff

So long as it stays looking like new for 20 years I can live with is easily.
I would be more concerned if the paint was of poor quality or applied thinly,

I can't speak for durability of Lexus paint. They just look superb in the showroom from a finish perspective.

Yes - it is probably a bit of a storm in a teacup. One good thing with the water based paint is that it is easy to do spot repairs with an airbrush & blend it even with metallics. The "Dent Magic" type minor accident repairers love it. I collected a dime size dent in my RHS front fender when a truck through up a stone while I was taking my good Aus friend Dr Jackie Fahy, on a tour of the Cape Peninsular. They spot fixed & painted it & even with the metallic silver you can't see it's been touched. Perfect match & finish. In the old days they would have sprayed the whole fender & there would likely have been a minor mismatch.

My 09 from germany is orange peel alllllllllllll over it, obsidian black.
While lexus paint chips really easily do to the more environmental paint codes, I dont think they have as much orange peeling. you win some, you lose some

The difference is clear. There is more black toner in the white on the metalwork or being effected by undercoat colour
