The last two are my favorite in car activities other than driving of course.

Dont use air freshners!
This happened to me on my old Audi A4. I had mounted the air freshener on the center air vent and it leaked onto the cental console frame where the radio system is housed. Next thing I knew, the color was peeling off the console. I had to buy a new plastic console frame!

Actually, the Audi's and VWs have a lot of this type of plastic coated stuff in their cars. Door handle areas, center consoles, etc. It was the one thing that made the interior age so quick. Mercedes-Benz are still conservative. On the New 204 C-class, only the area around the COMAND control knob and the steering wheel buttons have it. Otherwise the rest of the areas are made from what looks like proper quality plastics.

I strongly recommend not using any of the usual interior cleaning chemicals on this coating. Just a damp microfiber cloth if you must otherwise a dry microfiber cloth to dust it off from time to time.

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
I have an '03 Passat and it stil smells new inside. Just keep it clean. I have never used air fresheners because of the peeling issue. My brother had a Jetta in which a vent clip air freshener removed console paint. 1985 Monte Carlos are basically the only cars in which those air fresheners will work. Get cherry. :0

This is clearly a warranty issue as these parts should be able to withstand all types of things - it is a console after all.

Like the others said never use beautification products inside - only damp cloth or MB cleaner.

Some dealers will try and charge the client, then make a warranty claim - doubling up on the revenue.

The pizza place by my job has a delivery guy he has about 30 air freshener trees hanging from his mirror. I wonder if it does any good.
