Grille Question

I just got my AMG aftermarket grille and both plastic ears are broken on both side (it's the round plastic that sticking out on both side)

How critical these pieces are? can i securely set the new grille fine without these platic ears (hinges)?

Thank you in advance.

I bought it on ebay and emailed the seller right away telling him about the broken parts. Hopefully he won't give me much trouble, all i want is either a replacement or refund to that matter.

Thank you.

Yeah I feel those are somewhat crucial to holding the grill in place from all directions. Plus, even if it fit, it wouldn't be perfect.

1. Unclip the 2 center round pegs just by prying with your fingers
2. Press firmly inward on the bottom of the grille

Should pop right out

I'm not sure how you installed the grill without them. They are what's really holding the grill on the car. Returned it and get your money back

The ebay seller just contacted me and requested a picture for DHL claim and will send me a replacement ASAP.

The quality of the grille is very good just in fact the it got damaged in transit. I did gave the seller a hint or two as to how they can better protect the grille hinges in shipping.

Thank you everyone. Will disclose seller once everything get settled.

That happened to an OE grille I bought on one side. It was a heads up for me when shipped some out. You have to really pad the ends.

Replacement Grille was received in this morning! it was sent last Tuesday from Taiwan and it only took 2 days to arrive in NY.

I fitted/installed and what an amazing transformation compare from the OEM Grille.

The fitting is good, no complain.

Ebay Seller is Jakuo, website 55tech.com

Anyway, I bought a "Gorilla Super Glue and Gorilla normal Glue" and put the 2 broken hinges to the grille. Combination of both glue did the work and now I have an extra Grille without the ML Class Star(Item# A 168 888)

Basically the Super Glue Hold the pieces together and the normal Gorilla glue was applied inside/back of the grille for extra support. For people who used Gorilla glue before, they expand when they dry.

If anyone interested on an OEM Sports grille and AMG grille that i fixed (w/o a star) send me a PM. I have no use for 2 extra grille, lol.

Thank you everyone.

The one thing I don't like about the standard sport grill is how the MB Star stands straight up. It is certainly big enough so I think it would look much better if MB had layed the Star back a little further to "lay" along the same lines as the hood and the grill slats. Do these new grills have the star layed further back? Does anyone have a full on side shot of their new grill?

Thank you everyone.
If they don't want the grill back, you could save it as a backup the next time you run over somebody and they inconsiderately damage the good one.

Believe it or not the broken pieces are glued very well. I installed and it fits good. I am taking any decent offer if anyone interested without the MB Star which you can purchase at any dealer.

I am also selling the OE Sports Grille for $100+ shipping (from NY)

What's the proper way to put the grille back? Sides go first or bottom clips go first?

When I did mine, i placed the two hinges on both side first and then placed my hand behind the lower part of the grille and one slowly work my way on pushing it back forward to the front making sure all the slot is fully inserted back to where it should be.

You may have to revisit all the side and push the grille more to the front to make sure it snapped back in for proper alignment.

Oh, make sure that the T bracket that sits on the top of the grille is lifted upward before you do this

did you change the T bracket? I tried changing the grill while using the stock t bracket, and it seemed like the bracket stuck too far forward to allow the grill to fit. i dont want to mess with taking off the intakes and covers to remove the t bracket on my own, so im waiting to goto a body shop. let me know how you did yours

The aftermarket Grille i bought from ebay already comes with the T bracket attached to it.

Having said that, I did not use the stock bracket at all.
