Axle Hub Questions

I have been thinking of picking up some G2 caliper paint and was just looking through the wheels to see what shape my calipers are in. I noticed the axle hubs(I think that's the correct terminology) are very large on the W204....at least compared to my last few cars. I suppose that is why are offsets are so extreme for a Benz??
I have had vehicles where the hubs have had surface rust that progressivly gets worse and worse looking. Will the hubs of the W204 rust or is it made of a galvanized or otherwise rustproof metal? If rusting tends to be an issue, I will likely go ahead and paint the hubs but I think I would likely stick with silver or black and not the red that I want to use on the calipers. Has anyone painted the hubs when they painted their calipers?
Is there any advatage to having such a large hub/offset? Is it to accomodate the wheels/tires on the C63?

I had my hubs painted black with the calipers.. I figured it won't hurt to do it, while the wheels are off just a little extra work.
