Digital Speedometer
Does anyone know how to make the digital reading of the speedometer come on every time you start the car? My CLK does it but i can't seem to do it on the C. I'm too used to reading the digital instead of the analogue.

No can do you are stuck with the mileage coming on first. Unless of course someone has found a hidden setting in the ENG menu and has failed to post it.

And someone mentioned above hitting the up arrow before taking off. doesnt work for me. I do that, and a few seconds later (say when car starts moving, above 5mph) it goes back to telling me useless information and then i have to hit the arrow again before it goes to digital speedometer.
All this whining, given the other car (mitsubishi) doesnt even have an engine temp, fuel gauge dependent that takes about 2 minutes after driving to give a correct reading, and it doesnt even occur to me that i use a normal speedometer in that! just shows how fussy we get with MB!

If I remember correctly, you can replace the outside temperature reading with the digital speedometer on your permanent display. However, for some reason, the permanent digital speedometer only displays in km/h......... ![Confused](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
I'm very dependent on the digital speedometer too. Faster reading = safer driving.

but why do you have to give up the temp for this?
why not the time, as this is also displayed on the radio...

Depends on your philosophy. As engineers, the guys at Daimler likely understand that digital data takes longer for humans to process than analog data. There is no field of reference for digital and the numeric symbols have to be decoded each time you glance. They probably just used the digital display to accommodate the chance of traveling in Canada as a short-term and lower cost alternative to making the primary display sweep the needle on a metric scale. Your preference for digital is likely just habit and will change over time...just like getting used to the MB cruise control stalk.

But, with the plague of speed cameras, those 1 or 2mph make a difference and that's why i prefer the digital speedometer. you know exactly what you are doing. with the anologue you can "feel" how fast you going and are probably accurate, but there's a niggling feeling (going past speed cameras) and need to keep checking the speedometer to make sure you dont go past that speed camera even with a 2mph to 4mph margin...

not that i am am doubting you, but my car came with default in km. you can change it in the menu to mph.. After all, the point behind it here is that if i am driving on the continent (EU) i can change to km - mph would be pointless?

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
OP, I have the same issue. I like to put my steering wheel low, so the top of the speedo is not visible. You have to set it every time you start the car and you can flip between kilos and miles.

Yeah I always use digital too....Changing from mileage to speedo is always the first thing I do once I have put my car in drive...
Do agree that i wish it would just come on as it did in my old E...Furthermore, I don't understand why the other digtial speedo is always reading in km/h but I still leave it there...

I'm sure there's somewhere in a North American treaty that the cars will have a primary display of both MPH and KPH, Mercedes just tricked around it to keep the horrendous dual analogue display off the dash.
