Question Poll: Manual or Auto?

Mine is manual, I was wondering if they are somewhat rare?

Manual all the way for me and they are indeed fairly rare.
I am glad you included choice #3...it will be interesting to see if many people faced the same decision I did. For me, I was h&LL bent on getting a manual but would have preferred a little more equipement...easy decison really and I really don't miss all the extras (other than the fold down seat) ...not to mention it saved me a few bucks to.

Give it a few years...your left foot may just end up getting sick and tired of sitting over there doing nothing but keeping the dead pedal company...

The poll might be biased as the manual guys may be more inclined to post.

In any case, I special ordered my manual, so manual for me. =)

Auto for me too... don't want to be at 5 PM in a traffic jam pushing the clutch after a day of hard work. Besides auto has 7 speeds vs manual 6 speeds.

My situation exactly. When creeping along in traffic, dipping the clutch pedal 50 times per mile gets old fast.

Bad thread since very little Cs came with manuals, at least in the US.
I would have paid $5K more if I was able to get my C350 in a manual. I hate autos and it was almost a breaking point for me on NOT buying the car.

As to buying a C300 to get the manual, I wasn't willing to give up the power. I would have went with a 328 with manual VS C300 even if it does cost more.

6 speed....wish the C350 was offered with a manual transmission, but I couldn't see myself driving an automatic and enjoying it.

When my lease is up I will prob end up getting the new S4 or 335i as I want to stick with a manual, but desire more power.

This is the first automatic transmission I've ever owned, and to be honest I wasn't very apprehensive about it because the 0-60 time is identical if not faster on the 7 speed, and you can operate it manually from the stick, either tapping to change gears, or holding to select the lowest or highest gear available. Combine that with the luxury of driving an automatic and it's kinda the best of both worlds. Once I finish my engine mods, I'll consider adding the steering wheel paddle shifters.

MBUSA I hope you're reading this.

although most MB buyers don't care, they'd rather have a auto.

However for the C class to go after the 3 series they really need to offer it outside of base C.

Lexus IS also did the same thing.

The MB auto tranny does downshift fast, however manual upshifts are painfully slow, I find that when I want to do shift I will manually do it but as soon as I'm floored I hold the stick to the right to put it back into auto mode since there's no point in trying to upshift, nothing like having a delay =)

one of the main reasons i bought my c300 is the manual transmission... and yes, c300 manual tranny is rare in the u.s.

Keep in mind that this is not the regular 4 or 5 speeds automatic transmission... this is 7 speeds! I wish we could get the big brother S class 8 speeds. It would be the best car in the world.

Once you have a feel for the car (which you should if your shaving mils with manual-style driving) you can just time your upshifts a second early.

Not really into having to shift a second early in hopes of timing it right. I'd rather they got it right but, it is what it is. thank god it has pretty quick downshifts for a saving grace.

Benz need to learn to make a decent manual box with decent action & fast synchromesh & a decent clutch action first. Toyota & Honda manual trannys leave them for dead. Manual transmission spoils these cars. They are far better as an Auto.

The only manual I would consider is a dual clutch but Benz has no such device on offer as yet & their sequential is crap & can't take the power of the 6 cyls.

The C350-7G gearbox lockup clutch was enough for me, without lockup clutch auto gearbox are like yelly, and for me it works far better than I even imagened, for how long is another question..
