Got my car back from the body shop today from finally getting the body work and the tail light fixed, and just when i am stoked to be driving a complete car again, i get home and see my star is missing off my grill..

WTF i think??? then i realize that these cheap ebay c63 style grills have the oem stars that are not fixed and can pop out if touched the wrong way, and that most likely it flew out on the way home when i hit a bump or made a turn or something...

sure enough, i go back to the major intersection where i made my first big left turn after leaving the body shop, and i see a faint glimmer of chrome coming from the middle of the intersection.... right smack in the middle... i park my car a block away and run to get my star, but it was too late... looks like it had been run over a few times and the chrome was chipping off already and the interlocking tabs on the back were all gone...

so i definitely need a new star or maybe i might by the SL style grill if i have to get a new one and cannot find the replacement star...

i know the ebay seller said the stars were authentic and the star came in its own authentic box and had to be put into the grill separately, but i threw away the box a long time ago and dont have the part number anymore...

anybody else with the c63 style grill from the interent out there that can tell me the part number of the star that i need to replace now?

would be much appreciated...

Same thing happened to me, dealer wanted almost 90 bucks for the star. YES 90 bucks it didn't even come with the base just the star. I ended up getting a used grill from one of the forums members.

hahahhahahha, good call RLE, i knew someone was going to call me out on that used car lot of a driveway filled with POS clunking door dingers galore...

that was at my p's house close by the body shop where i stopped after to say hi and show em the repairs... my younger brothers silverado truck, my old 1984 turbo volvo station wagon (still runs ok with over 300,000 miles amazingly), and an 1997 volvo c70 that my parents have failed to get rid of on craigs.... just pulled in for a quick few mins, but still felt nervous parking there...

By chance do you have the name of the ebay seller that sold u yours?? i think i am gonna give him some crap that he needs to affix the stars better and sell me a knew one at a heavy discount since he buys large quantities...

i checked my ebay history and it only shows 60 days! WTF is up with that...?

You should be able to change the history up to 90 days.

Sorry to hear about the part flying off. Call up the dealership and see if they can give you the part number

I had superglued mine onto the base the moment I got the grille in. Ya never know about these things...

If you can wait until tomorrow, I should be able to find the box with the p/n.

the star has a 163 or 164 part number. forgot.

you can probably find it on rmeuropean dot com or getmercedesparts dot com.

I just tried to buy some parts for my car but when I checked out my browser advised me that There was a problem with this website's security certificate. That sux the prices are really cheap in comparison to the dealer's, however does not worth it getting your personal info being compromised.

Matt thats funny. I had a friend many years ago who drove this old POS pickup truck. He had the rear half of a fake dear sticking out of his grill with fake blood splattered on the hood, grill and fenders. Looked real from a distance.
