Good Day ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Around 2-3 times a week when traveling on the highway and in S mode, my engine will rev to 5500 rpm when i need to overtake another car.
Can this damage the engine in any way or does it better allow the car to run-in as it only has 4000 km on the odometer. For the rest of the time it never goes past 4000 rpm.
I have a C200 K Automatic
Thanks

It's not a problem at all, if anything it's good to get some revs up to keep the engine clean internally. Just make sure the engine is a normal operating temp before getting the revs high.

Great, thanks ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Is it factual that unless you drive a car relatively hard for the first few thousand kilometers that it will not perform at its full potential.
Surely with current production processes engines are fully operable from the beginning.

I never take these rules serious and drove above the "limit" , now i have 32000km with the car and never had to fill any engine oil.
But the rule for every engine, only rev higher if the engine is warm.

You don't want to run it ragged, but you do want to use occasionally rev it high for short periods. Overtaking is a perfect opportunity for this, though at 4,000km your engine is already cured.
Here's an article on the process how/why for motorcycles but the same principles apply.
