Speed is relative.
To say the C is slow, means you are saying the C is slow relative to [insert other vehicle here]. It's not slow or fast, it is what it is.

Personally, around town, I think a C300 is just fine. I had one as a loaner when my ML was in service and I actually enjoyed driving it around. I loved how well it handled compared to these boats I'm usually driving around . Off the line, I do feel it isn't torquey enough but when already moving, I think it does just fine. I will agree with another poster that said the transmission is geared for MPG. I had it in S and it still seemed to want to be in the highest gear possible. It also shifts too much for my taste. IMO it wouldn't be as enjoyable if it didn't drive well. I wouldn't mind having one though. It's a nice, sportier change than what I'm used to.

The C300 compared to the:
C350
C63
CLS (any of them)
SL
is slow as H E L L. It felt slower than my R500 even. I suppose that helps to "keep it relative" to MB's?

It's not slow as hell compared to the C350. The C350 is seriously not impressive. The rest..yes..but all of them cost at least twice as much.

It's not a sports car, but for daily driving it is good. I really like the suspension, handling and dynamics which I think is just as good as how fast it goes.
I often drive with a lead foot so my C feels fast enough.

Speaking as a long time Porsche owner (no lease cars for me), I for one am damned glad it doesn't. If I had to take off on a 1000 mile trip tomorrow, it sure wouldn't be in the Porsche.

That's all ive been hearing on this forum...the C300 is painfully and irritatingly slow...well that has me wondering...what about the owners of the early W211? in 03 when it was released, the V6 engine was the E320, with 221 hp, which is EVEN LESS than C300. In that heavy of a car, 221 hp is nowhere near enough, but 0-60 was 7.1 secs, same as C300. So whats soo bad about the C300? If it really is that slow, then i bet the owners of E320 are probably banging their heads on walls cuz they didnt opt for the V8

2008 R350 & 2008 C300
I drive a R350 on a daily basis and on the weekends a C300 4matic. I can tell you that the R with all its added weight feels faster than the C. The C is adequate, it doesn't do anything horrible, but on the same note it doesn't do anything spectacular either. May I relate a story that happened to me...at a stop light..new Civic Si pulls up..thought I would have some fun..those Si's have some nice tail lights. Guess its a good thing I have other weekend cars lol

Yeah the R350 made me upset on the test drive. I ended up with a R500.

I liked the feel of the C350 better than the CLS55, the CLS doesn't feel very tight in comparison. Definitely more luxury and handles great at top speeds, but I drive 130 in my C class often and it handles it quite comfortably. Also, I was considering the Porsche Cayenne and not only was the C350 faster, but definitely more luxurious. I couldn't imagine a Cayman being more comfortable than the Cayenne.

I think they feel slower than they are because power delivery is so smooth, little noise, and RWD with zero drama. Throttle modulation is way different from anything else I've ever driven - have to floor it for snap VS the ultra sensitive throttles of most cars.
The adaptive software also makes a huge difference - stop and go driving will seriously dull response. Aggressive driving sharpens it up considerably.
I had a B200 turbo loaner and it felt so much quicker - mainly because of all the drama and noise when stepping on it.
Also, IMO these cars need 7,000 miles ++ before loosening up.
