how to close headrest?
#3
As fas as I know the instructions to reset this is located at the end of the manual under "Practical Hints."
Quoted from the 2010 C-Class manual:
Warning!
For safety reasons, have the NECK-PRO active
front head restraints checked at an
authorized Mercedes-Benz Center after a
rear-end collision.
Warning!
When pushing back the head restraint
cushion, make sure your fingers do not
become caught between the head restraint
cushion and the cover. Failing to do so may
lead to injury.
i Pressing the head restraint cushion back
requires high force. If you encounter
difficulties when pushing the head restraint
back, please have the procedure
performed at an authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center.
1- Push the head restraint cushion at the
bottom, back as far as possible.
2- Push the head restraint cushion down into
the guide.
3- Fold the head restraint cushion by the top,
back firmly until it engages.
4- Repeat this procedure on the NECK-PRO
active front head restraint for the second
front seat.

happened to me 3 months ago too.. dealer will overcharge you for it. The MB bodyshop guys found it a joke when I told them the price the dealers were charging. You can push the headrest back in again.. It's easier with 2 people so grab a friend or something and tell him to be in the back seat pulling on the headrest while you push it down.

o yea.. also did it hurt your neck? I thought that in my situation eventhough the impact wasn't severe the headrest hitting the back of my head made it seem like the impact was much more intesified. I can't imagine what would happen to a old person if they got rear ended very lightly and the headrests popped out.

Depends on the headrest you have but the tool is nothing special if you have lost it, a long thin screwdriver should work too:

I reset my drivers side. However, I accidentally pushed the catch latch down and it locked. Now I can't reseat the head rest. I tried a screw driver but it won't release. Anybody, know how to redeploy headrest again or know how to release latch?

I just want to make sure I'm understanding the point of this thread.
Pretty much if the headrest on either the drivers side or passenger side feels loose?

To unlatch the latch
My headrest went off today when my gf took the car and someone rear ended her. I tried to put it back, but as always guys do what guys do. I accidentally put my hand in there and played with the latch and it clicked in the lock position. Lolz!! That is what guys do!
Anyways, here is the way to set it OFF.
Go here: http://www4.mercedes-benz.com/manual...ual_base.shtml
Then go to Safety, then Occupant safety, then scroll down to Neck-Pro Luxury head restraints. It talks about a tool in your manual booklet to insert it between the head restraint and the back cover. The diagram tells it all. Goodluck!!

Unlock the Latch Part II
Alright, the manual doesn't tell you how to do it, but I will. Sorry no pic, I do have it, but then I have to upload. Also, you are performing the below steps at your own risk, risk, risk. Or you can get it reset at the dealership, dealership, stealership, stealership. Steps below was performed on w204 2009.
Step 1: Car OFF, Key OUT.
Step 2: Remove the seat panel in the back of the seat. Two clips on the bottom. One on the right side and one on the left side. They are on there pretty tight. Once you pop them out, pull panel downward.
Step 3: Follow the wire coming out from the headrest metal pole, usually on the right side, to the 2 pin connector. Mines was yellow connector with GREEN and BLACK wire.
Step 4: Use a needle or a small nail and disconnect the connector.
Step 5: Using the same tool, release the GREEN and BLACK wire terminal from its connector. So there won't be a connector on its end and you have the metal terminal exposed.
Step 6: Attach the wire to a 12v battery. It should only take a second. Do not leave it on the battery for more than 1 second or it can damage the solenoid. What I did was attach an extension small gauge wire to each terminal, then attach it to my voltmeter prongs, then insert it to the cigarette lighter. The center is positive and the outer is the negative. I am electrically inclined so I wasn't worried. If you are not, please seek alternative. You can go straight to the fuse box of the cigarette lighter. Either way, you need to apply a 12v to the solenoid for it to either lock or unlock. If it doesn't unlock, reverse the polarity. I got mines to unlock by going GREEN to POSITIVE and BLACK to NEGATIVE.
Step 7: Pull down or push down the headrest into place. It was pretty easy and I wasn't a meathead. I recommend facing the seat from the right side, sit right on the center as if you are hugging the driver seat from the passenger side. Grab the head rest with your right hand and rest your whole arm on it and force it down like you are doing arm wrestling. Put all your weight on it.
Step 8: Put everything back together and don't forget the wire positive of the terminal when going back into the connector.
Step 9: Grab a beer and say "Yup!"

Wait - so these are electrically actuated rather than by inertia?
Pretty interesting - so the car is aware when they fire. Do they trip the airbag light when they go off?

Happened to me yesterday...
Got rear ended by a Chevy Equinox (force of impact punctured her radiator) but most of my damage was to the trunk lid with little to the rear bumper. Tried following the YouTube video for resetting the headrest
but couldn't manage to do it. Took it to MB-Cary, NC this morning and the service department took care of it in about the time it took me to sit down at the lounge and connect to the WiFi. Even asked if I wanted the car washed but I said no as I had a meeting to attend. Best part, there was no charge. Now just waiting to hear from the other driver's insurance adjuster...
