If you need to change the engine air filter, will you need to remove the strut bar?

Sorry for the hijack. I still want this strut bar.

Yes. Not all C63's have the black housings. I noticed that when they were first released.

The price is already amazing. $279 sounds pretty reasonable to me for a quality product.

Yes, it does. And, in reading about strut braces, I found an article which was particularly complimentary about this particular company's brace for its design and manufacture. The lingering question for me is...to what end? I have not yet heard from anyone even attempting to be objective in describing the difference for this specific bar in daily (non-track/racing) driving. Anyone out there with knowledge or experience? I don't want to add weight or cost for no noticeable improvement. Just seeing it in place doesn't do anything for me.

I also sent them a note a couple of days ago to inquire more about how it releases for access to the engine cover, without completely taking it apart each time...no reply so far.

I used one only for track events on the rx7. Design was different, and allowed most of the bar to be removed, leaving just the end pieces.

I never did it, but I thought about measuring the amount of oem splay by tightening just one end, and leaving grease on the opposite "loose" side as a telltale for how much they splayed under hard corning. Perhaps SMERC could do this with an owner's car.

I could not resist the continuing curiosity about the possible benefit, so when a slightly used SMERC strut tower brace was available recently at a very fair price, I bought it. My prior skepticism is gone and I am now a fan. Of course, I tried it while driving aggressively and it does keep the car better sorted through hard and fast turns, particularly when the pavement is uneven. But, there is another benefit...even in moderate events, the car feels more solid, as if carved from a single piece. Minor interior creaks which had fallen below awareness were suddenly conspicuous through their absence, as body flex has been further reduced. The car is quieter, steers even more responsively, and is noticeably more delightful to drive by feeling the tightness we associate with a new car. Between the strut brace and Eibach antisway bars, this configuration is very enjoyable! Two thumbs up!
