Sirius is included with COMAND in '08s.

Cool, wasn't aware of that. I know that Sirius bundled with P1, but I have an 09 C300 with MM but without P1. It didn't come with Sirius, but I was able to get it retrofitted and SCN coded.

I retrofitted a Euro COMAND in my 09 and do not get traffic updates after loading the NA Maps so it has something to do with the maps disks and not specifically firmware loads on the COMAND.

After we get the VIM by disk worked out we should tackle the TMC stuff. It should be much easier

I was able to get a used tuner on eBay. I paid about $150 for it, but I've seen them go for as little as $99 and as much as $350.

I got mine installed at Rocco's Auto Tech down in Costa Mesa. Installation was about $200 and included the antenna, wiring, harness, and SCN coding. All in all, it took about an hour. He does quality work and I couldn't be happier.

I believe he'll also sell you a tuner, but I have no idea how much it'd cost. If you don't want to deal with the hassle of waiting for one to show up on eBay, I'd call and ask for an estimate.

It's also important to note that if you try to turn it into a DIY project and even get the Sirius tuner properly wired up yourself, the Star Diagnostic Systems at dealerships can't properly code for it. I was really looking at doing all of this myself and just going to the dealership to get the radio enabled, but I discovered that it wouldn't have worked. This was much faster and much less of a headache.

Good deal! Crossing my fingers then.

But on that note, it seems like the people who've installed the newly released US MELCO v5 map update on 08 and 09 models haven't seen traffic updates show up. TMC may be tied to the region setting on the COMAND unit too, in which case a system update and/or a map update might be what's needed to add support.

You have to perform the FW update at a authorized dealer, you may be able to enable the update through the engineering mode but that feels a bit high risk to me.

Then again it is EXTREMELY important not to upgrade a US unit with a ECE FW, this WILL brick your system for sure!

Just to confirm... You can not load this via the engineering menu. I tried and it threw an error saying it was unable to find the flash.

I have confirmde with my local dealer that there's also a firmware update available for the US market (presumaby the same update Vic Viper has). The SA indicated that in order for them to perform the update, they first need to open a service order that includes details on issues the requestor is experiencing. They then in turn need to determine if this update addresses the issues before it is applied.

I will check to see if they are willing to do the update even if you are not experiencing issues - but more for the motive of having the latest.

WTF what if we just want to pay for the upgrade? They should not deprive any users of updated firmware that Improves usability and functionality, as that is the whole point upgrades are released, to improve our experience... Why these are not installed as standard updates at each service automaticAlly is beyond me... The fact that we have to prove something is wrong is complete BS

It's because for every 100,000 units upgraded one of them, for no apparent reason, will probably brick. So to mitigate risk, they don't upgrade unless someone needs the update to FIX something.

Yes, almost forgot that, when starting the upgrade process through Xentry, you first need to access the online central database and then specify the reason for the upgrade.

I just entered "problem with low aux audio" as a reason becuse this was one of the notes shown in the previous screen to be fixed by this upgrade.

@ Vic Viper: Can you check if this firmware update enables ipod controls via main COMAND display (and not just via instrument cluster). In other words, is this the same firmware included on MY2010 w204's.

Whether or not it's the same firmware as the 2010 models, the 2010 w204s no longer use the same iPod integration hardware. I can't remember the exact option code, but MY10 cars come with the universal connection interface (UCI) installed.

I'd love to have onscreen iPod controls on my 09, but I don't believe it's likely as UCI is fundamentally different. From what I understand, UCI operates on the car's MOST ring and isn't simply an add-on to the AUX input.

Wouldnt know that as I dont have the Ipod kit installed.

Do see any reason for that when using a 16gb memory card.

vic viper... Q for you:

Do you know if the FW update might help with increasing sensitivity coming from the FM antenna? Ever since I've had this vehicle the FM reception is worse than in any of my other vehicles (non-MB). According to the dealer it's a known issue and they declined to fix it unless I also had AM reception issues (which I do not). I wonder if poor quality FM reception is a valid enough reason for an upgrade?

I'm getting to the point short of pulling the bumper and foiling the entire back side to try to increase reception.

Just an update regarding VIM via disc. Mirage has found some very interesting content in one of the files on the firmware disc with the help of Otaku. If we can get far enough in progress, we may need someone that is able to test it out for us, but that means we need someone with a COMAND unit that could have taken vic's original disc (this is not a US firmware disc).

My car is at the dealer in Santa Clara, CA. they don't know of any update as of yet. the tech told me he'll look further into it to see if there's a cd update of some sort. he said some dealerships get things faster than others. He said according to the system, my car already has the most up to date firmware. however, my update was from 2 months ago, and it doesn't sound like it's the same one vic has as i do not have the stars and clouds in my navi unit yet. Now knowing our cars have the hardware for the live traffic via TMC and it being disabled through the software just kinda pisses me of.. makes me wonder "why?" i'm still bitter i don't have memory seats too. i'll update if i find out that they did find something later in the day.
