Reset

Good day

I would like to change my oil at 10 000 km and not at 20 000 km which is when the first service is scheduled, looking at the computer reading.

Will the computer reset itself if I change the oil or will it merely keep on counting down.

Is there any way that Mercedes will be able to tell that I changed the oil.

I am going to use an OEM filter and Mobil 1.

Thanks

You are doing what I am doing. The dash readout is just a mileage countdown from the last reset and also keeps track of the date. You could change your oil weekly and the system wouldn't know the difference.

I keep a written record of oil changes and just reset the system every other change. It doesn't matter.

Thanks RLE

Does the car's computer know when it is time to change the air filter, fuel filter and spark plugs.

Do you drain your oil or use the suction method.

Kind regards

No, it does not. Filters are done according to the mileage schedule in the owner's manual. Nevertheless, you can take a look at the air filters and cabin air filter after maybe a year and judge for yourself. The change interval on the plugs and fuel filter is so long now that you may change cars before the mileage comes up.

I have been using the suction method for about ten years, using a Top Sider which is a marine store item, costing around $60. You can see it at www.westmarine.com. This one uses a tube inserted in the dipstick tube. Since you are not in the US, you might have to look around a bit.

There are others.

The trans fluid change interval is now about 40K miles.
