Did you buy a used car? Usually the only time the shade doesn't match is when the bumpers have been repainted.

Not that any of you know me enough to believe me but it is not uncommon for the "plastic" front and rear bumper covers to be a shade of. All you have to do is go by any dealership and look in the showroom and most of them do not match exactly. Depends upon how good your color vision is. Both of the cars in may garage, for example, bought band new and never had any paint work. Both of then had front and rear bumpers that were not quite exactly the same color as the body of the car.

I know many times the metallic flakes in the paints had a great deal of why the color looks like that and usually it always in the silver family.

I have the Palladium Grey and I think the color is OK.

But, my friend has the White and the bumpers don't perfectly match in color with the body. We thought it was somekind of discoloration because of the sun or polishing or something.

I have posted the problem few months ago.

I don't know about MB, but some manufacturers don't paint the metal cars and the plastic bumpers in the same place. Many times the plastic bumpers use different paint with more flexibility. You can't just spray the whole car at the same time in that case.

My career was at an automaker. I don't know of anyone who paints fascias (the bumper is the steel structure underneath) at the same time or location as the body-in-white. Fascias are outsourced and arrive at the vehicle assembly plants in color quantities to be displayed for the operator to mate up with the already-painted vehicle.

The paints used on fascias and bodies are different. However, suppliers provide pre-pro samples for color harmony reviews of entire vehicles before the Design Office/Color Studio will sign off for production of that specific paint formulation. The fascia paint doesn't just have to match the body...the body paint and all body color trim, such as a bodyside molding, must match the same paint master.

In this case, ISD (in system damage) may have required a repaint, whether at the plant or dealer, prior to retail delivery or there may be a quality issue with the fascia supplier's paint reacting to UV which did not show up when new. It's possible, but less likely, that the vehicle left the plant with the current appearance resulting from a unnoticed process variation in the supplier's color control. Final inspections are quite detailed and done under appropriate lighting to make any paint issues very apparent.

I'd say he pretty much covered that.

On my car, the door handles seem to have metal flake in the paint.

Glad to help......is your car black? I think I recall there was a thread that seemed to document that MB intentionally used a different paint code on door handles than on the body for black cars, resulting in metallic black handles. This was noted on black cars coming from various MB assembly plants.

Steel Grey Metallic C63!!
Cairo...Have some Faith. I believe you because it is true and not because I have to know you :-P It's common knowledge that the bumpers are painted separately and THEN assembled after the body has been painted.

Asian...Don't worry too much about the off coloring of your silver. It's probably just you being too attached to your ride right now. Once you get some ***** leave a mark on your bumper trying to parallel park into a spot he can't fit into or have someone slam their door into your door, you'll forget about the off coloring real QUICK!! :-P lol Don't you love NYC?

Often times the discoloration is caused by the flexitive agent used for the bumpers, so they can move and bend without cracking the paint.

Maybe in a reshoot...not OE, unless there was an undetected short-term quality spill, which is possible, but not probable. OE paint formulations are matched to master before volume production and assessed during.
