Oil Consumption
What rate of oil consumption are people seeing on their C300's? Mine required about 2 qts at 1st 5000 miles - not terrible, but more than I was expecting - more than my 5.7L Pontiac.

None for me, it been full at max since i got it. I have always been used to checking my oil every week or so coming from an s2000 which is highly known to burn oil because of the nature of the high revving engine. It took me awhile to realize that the Benz is not the same and virtually burns no oil.

Haven't burned any in 9,000 miles. Since you were two quarts low at 5,000 miles, had you been checking the oil prior to that??? Maybe like JimPap said, could it have come from the dealer that way...

What mileage now? just over 5000 total? Some of these engines consume oil initially & settle down. Some use zilch - some never settle down. Merc have a weigh in, drive 200 miles, weigh out test they do. You will be staggered at what they consider normal consumption. Let them check it out. If oil consumption continues insist they perform a leakdown test. They will be reluctant to do this because if it fails they require to replace the engine. They choose not to repair them.
We have a member - Karo - on the 203 forum having this problem with a 350 that is coming to the end of it's warranty as we speak.
Don't be alarmed yet. We have a car that puffed oil smoke on initial start up in it's early life. By 13,000 miles consumption was zero & it has remained that way. Benz use MOS2 coated rings running in Alusil bores. These things are hell to break in with modern oils. Don't drive the car too gently. Once warm use the power - bursts at full throttle a good idea. Avoid constant throttle openings for extended periods of time until the engine has bedded in. They frankly require very little cautious run in as long as the engine temperature remains stable & does not rise above normal.
