I just got RAPED by Geico!!!

Geico is seriously fucxing around with me. They originally quoted me 980 dollars for 6 months, I had no choice. I purchased the car on a whim, so I paid in full. 3 weeks later I get a questionaire which they REQUIRE me to complete and return back to them. 3 days later, they call me with "great" news, they are dropping my insurance by 400 dollars. I'm elated and exhuberant...but it was short lived. 2 days later, they "re-adjusted" my insurance back to the original quote. I'm annoyed, so I call to find out wtf is going on. They are trying to explain to me that my insurance change was due to the fact that someone had input me into their system as married, because I had included my fiance as an insured. Does it really make that much of a difference?

I own my home, have excellent credit, graduate level education, excellent driving record. WTF is going on? I feel like I'm getting a royal shafting.

If you have a good driving record then go with Allstate, I had Geico and dumped them for Allstate because Allstate's rates were much lower, you should be able to get a prorated refund from Geico without a problem. BTW I live in Brooklyn also.

I won't try to advise you on where to shop, but to answer your original question.....yes, it does. The underwriting is all based on historical statistical data, and married men, even moreso once 25 or older, have a significantly different driving history as a group across large sample data. You move throughout life from being categorized in one group to another as your situation changes, and group profiled risk will apply to you. Of course, your individual record will impact that within the group parameter and that also doesn't mean some companies won't try to be more competitive than others in services and/or pricing, but the group risk data is the decision basis. Go buy a two door large engine sports car and see what happens to your liability coverage premium, even though it's still "you".

I paid around the ballpark of $1400 for 6 months with Gieco. The premium is up in December so I'll probably go looking around for an alternative then. I have 0 accidents, never had any claims, but I am 20 with only 3 - 4 years of driving. That mixed with living in Brooklyn puts you in the "bend em over" class.

I also got the car on whim and was previously insured by Gieco so I figured I might as well go with them WITHOUT doing any shopping around.

I would gladly lay down $800.

Speaking of 2 door sports cars . . I was quoted cheaper rates (couple hundred less) for the BMW 335 & Infiniti G37S. According to Gieco, Mercedes parts are a lot more expensive . .

I forgot to mention that I'm 28 years old also. I guess I have more incentive to go and tie the knot with my fiance now. lol. I figured the most important factors were your driving record, credit scores and age group. I guess I was wrong. Go figures.

I went around like a mad man to get a quote for auto insurance right after they jerked me around like that. Unfortunately for me, Geico is still one of the cheapest. I haven't tried that Wawa one, but I guess I'll give it a shot also. Esurance, Progressive, Statefarm were all more money when I did an impersonal price quote. Allstate was a few bucks cheaper, but nothing that would induce me to go through the hassle of doing a switch.

What do you guys think?

BTW, your credit score also is in the mix to determine your risky behavior. So, do your best to keep that excellent.

And, I grew up in Brooklyn , but left long ago...still the best pizza in the country (now, that will start a new argument! )

You won't get any arguments from me. Brooklyn is where you'll find the BEST pizzas. No If's Ands or Buts about that.

2009 C300 4Matic Sport P2/MM/Steel Gray
I have geico, im 24, with a 09 C300 4matic, and I pay $734 every 6 months. I got 2 tickets this summer, expecting rates to rise since my policy gets renewed this month, and guess what, did NOT go up! So I am a happy geico customer.

fyi my credit score's awsome and have 0 accidents on record. not sure if that has anything to do with it.

From my understanding Brooklyn has one of the highest rates due to the amount insurance fraud.
