We're on the same wavelength....225/45/17 Blizzak WS60 on some great Rial look-alike 17" rims ($99/wheel ) all packaged together by tirerack.com. Total package was $1274 with shipping. I don't have them on yet...in fact, I just hand washed the car......in Michigan.....on December 1st.....with no coat on!!! Life is good!!

BTW, if you're anywhere near Commerce, have tirerack.com send your winter package to MotorWerks on Walnut Lake Road near Pontiac Trail....a superb shop for Mercedes!!

Works fine even with 245/40 rears. I use Dunlop 3D winters with couple of sand bags in the rear and 1/2 tank + fuel for wight. Have 2 sets of staggered MB wheels...

If heavy snow my wife just works from home VS 3- hours stuck in the traffic jams.

AWD might be a benefit %10 of the time but most people have 2wd so no practical benefit since will be stk behind everyone else and car is too low for ditch / median driving - unless planning to go down seldom traveled and hilly roads frequently.

We had the most snow since 1955 in Calgary last year and never had any problems. MB control systems/software negate the need for awd in all but the rarest of circumstances.

AWD feels dead compared to RWD and IMO not worth the trade off - unless really need AWD then better of to get an ML.
