"pssh" or whoosing from dashboard??

My car has recently developed an odd noise..some sort of whooshing, or "psssh" air-like sound. Its not overly loud but its noticeable with the radio off. It seems as if its coming from the drivers side of the dash or engine compartment.

weird part is...it ONLY happens when my foot is off the brake pedal...the more pressure I apply to the brake pedal, the more the sound disappears. It will do it in park, drive, reverse, doesn't matter.

Any ideas??

Isnt that normal when pumping on the brake pedals, does it also do it while your driving? or only at certain times.

I have the same problem on my S class. Took it to a shop. They said it was the pedal that was causing it. The shop said they lubricated the pedal (honestly not quite sure what they mean by that) and the sound went away... but only for about a month. The sound came back after. Still have yet to find the cause of the sound and eliminate it totally.

Probably related to the power brake diaphragm and sounds like a vacuum leak. With the engine running, raise the hood and listen for the sound from the round black unit (against the firewall) which is next to the fuse box and behind the brake fluid reservoir.

Brake Vacuum leak. This is a common problem. Try going into a underground parking or anywhere without too much outside noise and while the car is running and in neutral press the break and it will disappear then when you release the brake it will slowly start to make that sound. If under warranty get it fixed as it is covered. I do not think there is a patch-up job which is stupid as the seal is the only problem and you can't replace just that seal as you need to replace the entire assembly.
