First Oil Change for my C230 4MATIC

Hello,

My c230 is coming close to 3k, I was recommended to do my first oil change around this time by a friend. This friend told me that the 20k or 1 year interval that MB recommends is insane, especially since I am keeping this car and not lensing it.

Is this true?

Also, does MB have an issue with me taking it to a 3rd party for an oil change? Does it void the warranty at all?

In addition, what brand/type of oil is recommended? and do I need to go to MB dealer to get a OEM MB filter or should the garage I am taking it to have these things?

If anyone can answer these questions that would be great.

Thanks and regards
xwar

DOES YOUR FRIEND DRIVE A 2009 BENZ? OR IS HE A GERMAN ENGINE EXPERT?

IF NOT THEN I WOULD LISTEN TO WHAT MERCEDES SAYS... OR IF YOU DONT LIKE WAITING THAT LONG DO IT A BIT SOONER...

3 MONTH INTERVALS WONT HURT ANYTHING BUT YOUR WALLET... WHETHER IT HELPS THE CAR OR NOT... I DON'T KNOW.

AND YES YOU CAN GO TO A 3RD PARTY... FOR SERVICE A... JUST KEEP DOCUMENTATION FOR WARRANTY PURPOSES.

I own a diesel & did the oil & filter change myself @ 5000 km using Mobil 1 & a MB filter.

You are correct in saying that the oil change was done early & MB do not think it is necessary to do the A service early.

My old fashioned thinking is why is the car using oil during this run in period ?. Answer:- It is bedding in the rings to the bore & all other moving surfaces for that matter hence a little more oil passing the rings into the combustion process.

Surely this bedding in results in increased metal in the lubrication system.

But MB think the modern oil & filters will handle this & they are most likely correct.

I usually keep my vehicles for 15 years hence the extra care.

Mb also recommend that the 5 speed auto is sealed for life . No so, as far as my MB service manager is concerned. . He says the oil should be flushed at 60,000 km for long life.

TB5 .. so you only take it in when your annual service requires you to?

When you do your oil change, do you take it to MB dealer or a 3rd party. Who would you recommend in the Toronto area?

I also have a C230 4matic, and just received my first service A. It cost me $578.56 at MB Toronto, if you do an oil change every 3 months at a dealer it's goona cost you a fortune $$$$$.

The engine and service intervals are designed around Mobil1 synthetic oil. Having your oil changed more often than recommended is not necessary. Not only is it costly and wasteful, it's also bad for the environment.

Did the service myself for about 85.00. 9 quarts Mobil 1 0W40(holds 8.5) and a K&N filter(made by Mann). Less than an hour time and saved a fortune. My service manual says to go every 13,000 miles, but I'm only doing 10k...
All good so far.
BTW, went with the conventional drain plug method, not the syphon....

Good on you Benzo, well done. While you are under dropping the drain plug you are also checking all components in the vicinity & learning more about your car.Doing the oil change a little earlier will benifit you if you are keeping the car long term.
