Gear change on the 2008 automatic C class saloon
Can some one please explain when the vehicle is in the driving mode (D), what is the purpose of the D+ and D-.
Also, can you explain when to use the D+ and D-.
Many Thanks.

Using D- restricts the tranny from using the highest gear. Just like on those old cars where you could select D, (4), 3 or 2 or something like that. It allows you to reach higher engine rpm if you are about to take over etc, to avoid the delay from shift down. On a steep downhill road you can use engine braking this way.
The D+ can be used to revert to normal operation after the above cases.
The most common case for me to use the +/- feature is to make the tranny select a higher gear at steady speed on a flat road where the car prefers to leave some RPM margin for the current gear while I know I can make the engine save fuel by shifting up (at certain speeds the car shifts up and keeps the gear without problems).
