C300 Luxury vs Sport

Hi,

I am new to this website and came across it while looking to buy new C300. I had been looking for used 2008/2009 C300 4Matic Sport because of the look.

However, I came across a Luxury model with 5-spoke wheel and really good price (2009 with 10K, Nav for 28K).

So my question is besides the front grill what else is different from exterior between Sport and Luxury. I really don't care about the interior looks just the outside. I want the Sport look.

I am thinking to buy the Luxury and replace with sport grill from ebay. Any comments please.

C300 Luxury
The front end is different, the car rides 0.75 inches higher, the sideskirts are different, and there's no rear diffusor. Also the Lux has a 4 spoke steering wheel.

Aren't the discs different as well? Are the lux ones x-drilled and vented like the sport? I just checked the MB site and it specifies vented rotors and sport calipers.

I personally think the luxury front bumper looks awkward with the sport grill, as others have already done exactly what you want to do. The luxury model just isn't sporty and the big star grille looks tacked on. It needs the agressive front bumper and sideskirts to balance the look. Theres pictures on here somewhere.

2008 C350
I have a 2008 C350 which has the sport suspension, bigger brakes, and bigger engine. And I just got a brand new C300 4matic luxury today for a loaner. I don't know how it is compared with a C300 sport but they felt like two totally different cars. Of course the C350 is way quicker. Acceleration difference was way profound, the C350 feels like a rocket compared to a C300 4matic. However, the C300 had way softer ride, although with more wallow and roll over the bumps and corners. It also had much lighter steering feel. If you value comfortable ride over tight handling the luxury model is way to go. I suspect the acceleration difference is low between the C300 sport and luxury models. It was just surprising how much difference can be built into basically the same car.

Murray...it goes beyond that.

In the last 28 months that I've had my 2008 C300, I've probably had 6 different C300 loaners. Some 2008 and some 2009s. Every one felt different.

I always seem loaners cars always felt faster because of the adaptive tranny. Loaners are always being beat on so the tranny is very responsive (feels quicker). Then when I get to mines it a lil more mellow because, well of course it my baby!

I personally think the look alone is so much more bad a$# on the sport. I had a lux for a loaner and liked it. Can't go wrong with either one, Personal preference. I do like the steering wheel alot more on the lux. The ride will only feel different depending on how u drive the car. I'm more of an aggressive driver, so for me they felt about the same, couldn't notice a difference. Sport might even feel smoother given my driving way. Like I said, personal preference and you can't go wrong either way. Good luck.

If my memory serves me, when I test drove the 2 versions, the sport has a tighter suspension and corners at a faster speed.

Actually, there is a big difference between Sport and Luxyry C-Class. The most complete comparison between them, that I've ever seen is here: C-Class Luxury sedan vs. Sport sedan . It gives you the meticolous breakdown of the differences between 2 editions, and it is illustrated at the bottom with thumbnails. Also tells the story of the C-Class evolution.
Most surprising to me was: these editions 2 engines actually are different! One can use different than gasoline fuel! It must-read to anyone who considers C-Class.

If you can afford 28K on a used one, you might as well get a brand new one for $33 or so. Nobody else has driven it, you can choose all the features and colors you want, you have a 5 year/50K warranty. And if you buy in October when they are trying to sell the 2011 models, you can get a steal on the 2010! That's what I did on Oct 2008, got mine for $31,600 which was $1000 under their invoice and I got them to throw in the Ipod integration kit. If you want the Sport, it's cheaper than the luxury and looks WAY better in my opinion.
