Homelink Opener

Hey guys just picked up a new c class, however it does not have the homelink opener on my rearview mirror, can I just buy the mirror with the homelink buttons as a stand alone from the parts department? If so would anyone happen to know the p/n and whether or not it is plug n play?

As I remember it is not a DIY think and comes with the P1 package. There is much more to it than just swapping out the rear view mirror. Someone discuss this before somewhere.

If it's any consolation, I could not get the home link to work with the buttons on the mirror. It simply seems to be a garage door opener remote.....

Are the connectors for the base and the auto dim/homelink mirror the same? I am assuming the auto dim and Homelinks functions are all self contained inside the mirror and only need power from the car. I wouldn't mind upgrading my mirror if I come across one at a good price.

I know for a fact they are self contained in the mirror, its just trying to get the power source to the mirror which im hoping should still be the same connector for the stock mirror. Ive done it on a 2007 c class, but not the new w204.

I performed this exact DIY on my 2009 C300. The mirror is quite expensive when purchased new, but I was extremely lucky and found the homelink/dimming mirror from a 2008 on eBay for $130 after months of searching. I don't have a part number for you, but I'm sure your service department will be able to look it up for you in EPC. If I remember correctly, though, I was quoted numbers ranging from $600 to $900 without installation.

The key difference between the 2008 and 2009-2010 homelink mirrors is that the newer versions include an integrated compass. I have COMAND with navigation, so the lack of a compass did not bother me much.

As far as wiring goes, you will not have a problem. All of the mirror's power needs are routed through a single harness, so you do not need to tap/splice any wires. It really is a plug and play modification. You just need to disconnect and reconnect two connectors: power and microphone.

Installation took me about 2 hours because I was going in blind and being excessively careful. Knowing what I know now, I'm confident I can perform the swap in under 5 minutes.

Here's what I learned:
  • To remove the top console, slide a credit card in the seam between the console and the headliner. This will push in the retaining clips and the console will drop down on a hinge.
  • The hinge is made of plastic and feels pretty fragile, but you can carefully detach the console from the hinge when it's been tilted down far enough. Once the hinge has been detached, let the console hang by the attached wires.
  • Detach the mirror's plastic base.
  • Disconnect both the power and the microphone connectors.
  • The mirror is held firmly in place by two spring loaded bolts. This is done so that if your head impacts the mirror in a crash, the mirror will cleanly break away. To remove the mirror, grab it with both hands and pull it down hard. This will take more force than you'd think, but rest assured that you won't break anything.
  • Do all of this in reverse to install the new mirror.

I'm afraid I don't have pictures of the installation, but I'd be happy to answer any questions that come up.
