c300 install rear view camera issue

It's really not that hard to do. Took me a good 3 hrs last weekend to do it. All I bought was a FARKA cable from mid-city and a Sony rear view camera from amazon. Total cost was just $111 but knowing I did everything myself and it worked following the DIY info on this forum was just PRICELESS
I will read DIY more thoroughly.

It requires taking out the vent, Comand unit, side sills and the whole trunk liner. Also need to cut/dremel the plastic handle strip and run the wire from the front all the way into the back/trunk area. Took me some thinking and courage to do it. All I can say is good luck!

Interested in Sony Camera Option
I have read all the posts on installing a rear view camera in a W204 and was thinking a Sony camera would be a good option. What model did you go with? Is it the one with a separate control unit? How did the install go and are you pleased with the results? - Todd

regarding prewiring: keep in mind that you need at least four wires for your camera: 1) video RCA 2) reverse wire (tapped from backup light) 3) 12V and 4) ground. so your car is probably not "pre-wired."
good camera: go to navvideo.com. and ask for Tony. They have a custom w204 sony ccd backup camera that replaces the license plate backlighting lense. so it plugs right in, no drilling (worrying about leaks, etc). it is kinda expensive at $295 (less $45 with interface combo). but it works well (like OEM) and the location is actually better than OEM since it is closer to center. see my post for pix. after you plug in the camera, look at those great DIY posts on this forum on how to connect the wires.

there is another post "backup camera for non popup screen". camera install (trunk) is the same, whether you have MMI or not. but interface (up front) is different for MMI vs small screen.
here's the pix.
camera and interface install is probably best done by professional with experience in stereo/camera installs in MBs.

I've been attempting to find this video connector in the trunk of my 2010, but can't find it. The strange thing is that the back of the Comand unit has a lead and connector coming out of it to somewhere. Does anyone know where the other end may be? I've removed the trim from the trunk lead and nothing
Update - Actually I think the video input goes to the Media Interface. Not that that works either as apparently you need the Media Interface Plus as well as an Ipod Video cable.
I guess it's a choice of either iPod video or backup camera.

Well unplugged the existing input into the Comand and added mine. Simple enough to run the cable over the drivers footwell, and up the A pillar and along the roof lining. Popped straight through by the fuse box I have in the trunk. Now just got to install the camera, and hook it up.

2011 C300 W204 (Pending)
FYI - 2011 W204s have a factory location to install a camera, no need to use the license plate lights.
Mine car doesnt have the camera option but the install location is still there

2010 rear camera pre wired
Guys, I have a 2010 C300 and I decided to do the DIY rear camera today. I removed the command and guess what.... A green fakra cable was already installed! Now seriously, is the cable pre wired?
I literally took my whole trunk apart and couldn't find it. I even lost a clip (((
Any ideas??
