Disable Seatbelt chime

Does anyone know how to disable the seatbelt chime, it simply drives me nuts. I know all the reasons one should keep it but I hate it. In some of my recent cars I was able to disable it through the computer, can you do it on C Class?

When do you hear the chime? Do you start the car before buckling up or unbuckle before ignition off?

Easiest way to disable it is to put your seatbelt on

This comes up every 6 months or so and ALWAYS turns into an argument. If I remember right it cannot be turned off on a North American car even by MB.

I put on my seat belt every time I drive, but I always start the car first and then put on the belt. That sound is sooo high pitched it really is quite annoying. Anyone heard the nice sound on BMWs and even the basic chime on toyota/lexus cars?

Ive accepted the fact that I cant turn it off but it is still annoying.

No arguement from me! I learned a long time ago not to "preach to anyone".

Drugs, Tobacco, Alchol, Seatbelts and at least a million other things can be argued till there`s no oxygen left to argue with. Thank God there`s still free choice.

I simply can go to Mercedes and get a seatbelt extention to shut that chime off anytime I want, just thought there was a electronic alternative.

I always wear my seatbelt, so that issue does not bother me... But does it have to be so annoying when my PASSENGER decides not to wear his/her belt?

In my Infiniti the seat belt chime was non-existent, even for the driver, simply a red light would display with the guy in the seat with a seatbelt on... That's the way it should be. I understand if it does it for the driver, thats one thing, but not for a passenger, thats just Obnoxious!

Ummm, I am not even going to ask you guys to explain what just happened. All I am going to do is try to attempt to get this back on topic.

---- Does anyone know how to disable it?

You know we have had some contact back and forth. In fact I liked talking to you. As far as your comments in this post are concerned I did not take them as satirical, which very well may be a fault of mine lately, to shoot from the hip and ask questions later. I take your explaination as being honest as you have been in the past. After re-reading my post to you, it was not like me and may be the chemo after effects exposing it`s ugly head. Lets just say it never happened and I`ll remove my post. Have a good one. Jim

No problem nor hard feelings...best wishes with your chemo. I'll take mine out as well and smooth over the whole thread.

After having worked in a trauma center for a number of years, I always insist on every passeger belting up...you would be amazed (and not in a good way) what kind of damage flying passengers (and there various appendages) can do to others. One of my friends doesn't like to wear a seatbelt when he is a passenger and I just tell him "I don't want your dumb *** flying over here and smacking into me...

Our seatbelt chime isn't even annoying compared to other cars.. have any of you driven a Smart? you forget to put your seat belt on in that thing and the car basically extends a mechanical arm and jams a screw driver in your ear.... After that, I almost enjoy our seatbelt chime

It's hilarious that on most BMW vechicles the sound gets louder as you raise the volume on your radio.

a quarter mile at a time
I know it can be done on the w203 via STAR w/ developer mode. I'd guess to say it's possible on the w204 as well.

From what I understand it can be done but MBUSA disabled it from STAR here. That could be hearsay from what I remeber from one of the past threads on this subject the poster claimed to be an MB tech but not everyone is honest about who they are on the internet.

In case you still didn't find a solution...

I just ordered one of these - it cost $21 for the 3"
I still haven't received it yet but they sent me a tracking number within minutes of placing my order!

Here's the eBay store

I agree 100%. I always wear my seat belt and I don't recall any instance in the last twenty years that I ever forgot to wear seat belt when driving.

Before I bought C300, I always started car first and then settled down with seat belt and other things. This gave the car a few extra seconds to warm up. The C300 seat belt chime is so annoying that I have to change the routine and put on the seat belt first. Not a big deal, but it is not a choice I like.

Strange, on my 204 the chime doesn't start untill you get over 10mph for a few seconds , giving you enough time to get sorted get moving and get your belt on, might be that its a European model

+1 with my 220 CDI also , 10 KM for me

To allow all electrics to fire up , fuel pump to stabilise pressure & glow plugs to warm completely , I turn on ign , put seat belt on then start car.

Habit comes from glow plugs that take longer to heat up !!

I too fully agree that seat belts need to be worn.

Having said that, the annoying beep that occurs as soon as you start the engine (still in park) is completely pointless. How many of you put your seat belt on before starting the engine?

I'd be perfectly content disabling the initial useless beeping, and making the "you aren't wearing your seat belt" beep twice as loud and annoying.
