Loud (ish) power steering - normal?

Fluid aerates if low.
Max on the measuring stick for temp. Very little between too low & correct in volume.
Buy the genuine approved fluid I list in a post above. Can do better than a dealer but it might be hard to find or try RMeuropean on the internet.
Sorry for M112 pictures but the same.

Yup, mine is low, the engine is fully warmed up and the level is a little below the 80 degree min, I am worried about driving the car before I get the fluid now as it is probably shortening the life of the pump while I only have 2500 miles left on my warranty. At least now I know why the steering is weird at low speeds.

I had a small accident and during repair my workshop informed me that my pump went dead due to leaking fluid. Now they are changing the pump and stopping the leakage but it was making a weird sound as you say. Once you top the fluid it should be fine though.

Glyn,
My steering doesn't hiss or whine but there is a very noticeable shudder at parking lot or k turn speeds.
Sometimes the shudder comes on as early as 15 degrees from center and other times it is further into the turn.
Any ideas?
I will check p/s fluid in the a.m. if I can find/access it. Maybe the dealer has been overlooking it when I bring it in for service.

Does it squeal at full lock? Check the level. Under the RHS air hose looking from the front of the car. It should not shudder.

is it bad if i put a bit to much steering fluid in it? because i checked mine and it was at cold max, i had the car parked outside in 5 degrees Celsius weather in canada for about 4 hours when i checked?
i was going to check again after a quick 20 minute drive tom and top it to the second max line, i hate the noise its starting to make inside

Slightly overfull is better than slightly underfilled as long as it does not force it's way past the cap when hot.

If you told me that now and again idler & tensioner pulleys were audible above the engine at idle I would possibly accept that as normal but not the PS pump.

I've topped off my power steering fluid, with the $40 fluid from MB, but the noise is still there, i hear it inside when i turn the wheel, and its quite sometime, so i can't really find out what it exactly is
