Service B

Have a 4 year lease on '09 C300. Leased in April '09 an have less than 20k miles. Getting Service B warning in 500 miles.

Called local dealer in San Diego and got quoted $379 for Service B. Thought it was a fair price for some other prices I have seen here. I asked what it included and everything she list was mostly checking this and checking that (basically a bunch of inspections)... and nothing major other than oil and filter.

Called local MB auto shop and got quoted $120 for an oil change and $160 if I need a filter. I think I am going to go this route and save $200.

Check your Service Booklet for details of A & B services.

You are taking a very short term approach to the maintenance of your vehicle if you go local which may affect your lease agreement.

Other items apart from oil & filter :- brake fluid change after 2 years , who is checking your brake pad wear, steering boots ,suspension rubbers , power steering fluid level, cabin filter, serpentine belt ect?

After saying that I am surprised that you are being called in for a B service after 14 months & 20,000 miles. An A service is every 25,000 km or 12 months in Australia. I would check this with your dealer.

Interested to know how you go.

all i did was when my service b was due, i just did an engine oil change, then turned off the b service code myself then went to the dealer and told them my transmission didnt feel right, my suspension doesn't feel the same, and they took a look and it was fine.. also my car had a minor sound when i started up the car so i went to the dealer for that issue and they changed the vbelt and the alternator for free. also my dealer does free complimentary check up when i bring it in which includes the brake pad check up. im not paying $500+ for check up and oil change with filters. as for brake fluid issues ill wait for the next service A to change it or as soon as i feel the difference in braking i'll change that.

I would have loved to pay $379 for a service B. When you think about it though, $379 for the only service you have needed in 15K is not that bad.

First and last Mercedes...

You should try to find another dealership. That price is absurd.

That is an absurd price. In Michigan, Service A is $189, B $289. Half my family is Canadian (Ontario) and I am frequently amazed at unjustified pricing differences for a variety of goods. I just bought a motorized garden tiller, of all things, for my father-in-law, and paid less than 2/3rds of his best local "discount" price.

I paid $280 for Service A at dealership at 10k miles.

Just figured I could do the oil filter change at local shop for $160 now and reset warning and then have all items checked again at next Service A by dealership. Just don't see the need to pay $200 more for a checkup.

The local shop is really good and will do an inspection as well.

I have leased my last 2 MBs from same dealership and have used same sales guy. If they want to ding me for not getting an "official" Service B done then I'll just take my business elsewhere... in this economy... I doubt they will let that happen.

I paid $99 + tax for my service A by using a coupon from another California MB dealer. Check with your San Diego MB dealer if they will match this coupon, most likely they will. Service A for $99, Service B for $229 - expires 6/30/2010.
