I am getting my tints done soon. How do you like your 35's? Can people easily see you in the car during the day? Can people see you during the night? Would you tint your front windshield?

at night it looks pretty dark. im sure they will still see a silhouette of your face or something.
i would tint it if it wont be noticeable for a cop. its best to stay away from **** that will get you in trouble. last thing you need is for you giving them a reason to pull you over.

35's are the classiest look and is now legal in Illinois. Actually the State Police are the ones that lobbied the state Senate here.
In Chicago, the police will still give you a $250 ticket, even though it is legal. Mayor Daley does whatever he wants here - the good thing is that I provide my customers with a copy of the law, a receipt stating the percentage of tints applied in case the gestapo police gives a ticket.
Limo tints seem like they would look the best, but 35% is the classiest look.
The heat reduction and energy savings of tints is worth it. Less air conditioning being forced through the car to cool it off in the summer.
Front windows - depends on the car, depends on how much you drive. It actually helps you see better at night.
I wouldn't recommend them if you are trying to "hide" from the cops though. LOL
You're asking for trouble, then. http://www.chicago-window-tinting.com Give me a buzz if you want more info. I've also tinted windows in California for 22 years.
Check out my bio on my site. I practically invented window tinting in 1975 - Ford was President, Jimmy Carter wasn't even elected yet. :-)

35% seems to be just right. It's probably where you might wanna draw the line if you aim for a police-friendly look. As tints unlimited said on the previous post, it's pretty classy.
But TintsUnlimited, could you explain this bit to me please? "Front windows - depends on the car, depends on how much you drive. It actually helps you see better at night." How would tinting your windows to a darker shade help see better o_o I have to strain my eyes and lift my body off the seat when I parallel park/back out of not-so-well-lit parking lots at night and such.

I think he is referring to the effect that the auto dimming rearview mirror and side-view mirrors we have do. So it tints the headlights, allowing you to see better, but when you combine tints with these auto dimming features, it results in a tougher time at night.
Thanks for all the answers guys. I am going to do 35s around. And then if I am unhappy with the windshield, I will do 60 there.
One last question. I have been told that you can't clean tinted windows with windex... What do you use?

I'm happy with my 35's. With the slight factory tint, the 35% puts me right over the limit to being illegal in Connecticut. I've never had issues in the past though so I'm not too concerned. People can see you during the day if they are close to the car, but not from too far away. At night they are pretty hard to see in, but I can still see out just fine. I wouldn't tint my front window, don't see the need for it and honestly don't think it looks good.

Does anyone have experience with the Global Window Films brand?
Do the metallized films really interfere with our stereo, satellite radio or GPS??

i have Johnson Film on. i used 5% on the back, 10% for the back passenger window, 15% driver window, and 5% for the top 4" part of the windshield. Not cause any interference with signal.

Just moved to Florida and had my car tinted. 35% on the front windows and 18% on the rears. That's what's legal in FL so I just went with it rather than have to deal with the cops. It's definitely dark enough

I'm thinking about tinting my windows to 30% as this is legal in NY. My primary reason for the tints is to protect myself, and my interior, from harmful UV rays. Do you know if 30% will provide such protection? Or will I need to go with darker tints?

30's are not legal in new York. According to nys law, the windows must allow at least 70% of the light in on the front and rear side windows the back window however can be of any darkness. So this means that you can get 70s which is virtually no tint. If you got 30s then it would only allow 30% of the light in, blocking 70%. I have 35% all around my car and I think it is perfect on our vehicles. Provides uv protection and during the day you can still see in (not very well, but you can) and at might it is almost impossible to see in unless you are a couple of feet away. If you go any lower like 20's you will definitely be pulled over everytime you encounter a cop. Potentially they could pull you over with 35's but I have never been given any trouble, they aren't dark enough to cause trouble during the day. And at night everyone's windows look dark. So its hard to discern if you have tints. Also, I believe our cars come with a slight factory tint. Because when the tint installation guy used the gun on my window after he out in the 35s. It read 30% light bypass. Could be its miscalibrated, but they do seem darker than most other windows stock.

Is it true that the slight blue tinted glass will affect the tint? I want to get 35%, which is the darkest legal tint in NC, but I've read posts that says that 35% on top of the factory tinted glass will meter below the legal limit. I could go with 45%, but I prefer not to...
EDIT: I guess the 2nd post before me addressed this issue, but further confirmation would be nice. I posted before I read recent posts. I usually do that.

Looking to tint my windows now and I'm considering 35% for a classier look.
20% or less and you look like you painted your windows black... to those of you with 20 or less, is that the look you are going for?
