"engine sound proof cover front lid" to increase engine sound

Hi folks,

I came across a comment in a Youtube video about a simple mod:

"1. Remove the not-needed Engine Sound proof Cover front lid. It pops right off and on like a Lego piece. This will allow you to hear the engine better and get a nice growl going when you accelerate-if you are into that sort of thing."

But I can't figure out what this lid is. Is it that cover in the middle with the Benz logo? Is the comment telling me to simply pop the whole thing off? I've done some searches on the net to no avail. Thanks in advance for any light on this matter.

I would imagine it is the facade that is in place to lead most to believe we have a larger engine than we do..

I would think the engine airflow would be thrown off a bit if this piece comes off. You may have a lot more dust/trash blown up all over the place if you pull this piece off.

good point... not sure if that's actually the case, but i might still consider doing it because the engine noise seems to be more subdued in w204's compared to our competitors. has no one tried this on the boards?

I think most everyone that has wanted a bit more "growl" has opted for an x-pipe or aftermarket exhaust. I know it's not quite the same type of sound you are looking for, but it works for me.
