I don't have the UMI, but I have a bluetooth A2DP transmitter in the glove box connected to the AUX port, and I don't have any delay between the audio for videos. Ask your dealer, perhaps you need an update for UMI?

So you have to detach the iPad and charge it then you can use it again in guessing..... The whole set up seems like a thing one would think of temporarily when bored... Sure it works but it seems kind of ridiculous.

I'm running iPad 2 Video in the backseat for my daughter streaming the audio through the Bluetooth on the MB UMI. There seems to be about a 1/2 secomd delay so the audio is not synced up with the video. I paired my iPhone 4 with the same results. Are you seeing any kind of peceptable delay or sync issue betwtween the video running on your iPad and your specific Bluetooth set up for the audio through the AUX port?
I would like to know if the delay I'm seeing/hearing is a UMI issue or just a reality when streaming Bluetooth audio from a device running video.

I ran a few different videos to test this and saw no delay at all. This was running video bought through the iTunes store, I cant vouch for DVD rips etc.
You can just search amazon for "Blackberry Bluetooth Stereo Gateway" if I recall it was around 40$ You will need to get the car charger plug, or a cigarette lighter USB port to power it in the glove box.
I currently have the iPad setup with temporary clips fashioned out of wire. I am shopping around for someone to custom mold some solid ABS plastic parts that will do the same thing, but sexier.
Regarding leaving it in the car, I only do in my secured parking facility.
Regarding not charging it while in use, it has a battery life of around 6-10 hours... I've never had an issue.

hey, try the tunelink auto by new potato for bluetooth a2dp too aux, and PLEASE tell us how you support the ipad in that postion?
also i found this device called anystream, apparently its a bluetooth a2dp but it connects to your ipod hook up in the glove box instead of the aux port , and u can control music via the steering wheel, that would be cool with the ipad
