OEM rear view camera, code 218
All I need now is the time to fit the parts, then Ill shoot some pics and do a simple writeup.
At first I wanted to fit the Japanese version of the rear view camera wich is using CAN-signals to recieve steering position and speed signals to assist parallell parking using guide lines in the camera view on the screen.
However this required a lot more wiring and a separate control unit wich was expensive as hell, so that idea was scrapped.
I guess this mod isnt very exciting as many non OEM backup camera kits exist out there at a lower cost, but if you are like me and enjoy that original part feel here are the parts you need to fit a OEM camera.
Camera A204 820 07 97
Wiring harness A204 440 49 08
Wiring harness A204 440 48 08
Voltage regulator A164 543 00 62
Handle strip A204 740 09 93
Please note that the above parts are for the sedan and I have ordered parts for my estate model, so I cannot confirm the above parts to 100%.
Also the new handle strip arnt needed if you are good with a dremel tool, there is a recess in the strip where the camera is supposed to go through so it is easy to see where to cut.

Can you let me know what the extra parts and part numbers are for the Estate please.

The OEM camera is powered through a voltage regulator, this also contains a "power on" relay triggered by the backup light, this means the camera is powered only when in reverse gear, it also contains a 15s power delay wich keeps power to the camera up for an additional 15 seconds after the backup light signal has been cut,
If you find yourself in a situation where you need to switch frequently between reverse and forward gear the camera will remain powered not causing any power up delays.

Vic...I have to make one comment about the OEM camera. I had the non-oem kenwood camera installed in my 2009 c350 and it was great. My 2010 c63 has the OEM camera pre-installed into it. Having been accustomed to the quality of the aftermarket unit, I had great expectations that the OEM should be better. It is not! The OEM looks completely archiac. To those that ever wondered and regretted if they should have purchased a OEM camera, IT IS A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY!
I'm having trouble understanding what you're trying to say. What do you mean by somebody has to see inside the factory one and ours?

Also it seems that one of the harnesses replaces the backup light cable from the front. What to do about it?
Do the aftermarket cameras hook into the Command screen? Does any reprogramming need to take place to make it display the video when reversing?
What is the most cost effective option for getting a backup camera that displays on the command screen?
Thx!
Do you happen to know the procedure involved to code this option on your car.
The reason I'm asking this is because I'm stack at the camera calibration and I'm unable to save the settings .
do you know if the Comand and IC need to be SCN coded as well for the option 218
Thanks
It happened that I have a new not used camera still in the box for the S class but it might fit others

If any one is interested I will accept reasonable offers
I am taking offers before I put them on EBAY. These cables can be used with the OEM camera, or a aftermarket unit like Kenwood or Alpine.
