2008 Electrical/Wiring Issues

I'm the original owner of a '08 C300 purchased in 9/07. It currently has 43000 miles on it. Last week we began getting random "lights out" messages for the rear lights/turn signals and another error message for the engine fan not functioning. Some days it would be fine, other days no lights would work.

The dealer has been working on it for 2 days. The only thing I was told by them was "it's not good - the whole rear wiring harness is melted and it's traveling back up the wiring path into the rest of the car".

The fan not running is causing the car to hit triple digit engine temps and eventually kills the A/C. I'm not sure if it's related to the other wiring problem, but who knows.

This is mainly an FYI for anyone who may experience an issue later on when you all get a few more miles on your rides. This could have caused a fire and since we garage it, that's bad.

Sorry to hear that- hope it gets sorted quickly.

Interesting to know. Rear lights should be limited to very low current figures. Since you are the original owner, I assume the car has not had any accident affecting the rear, you would have told it if it had.

Aren't these things usually fused? The fuses should have blown with shorted wires.
